Darbyshire takes Boone Deery win, series point lead

BOONE, Iowa (May 26) – An impressive Memorial Day run at Boone

Speedway put Tom Darbyshire in the winnner’s circle and on top of the

Deery Brothers Summer Series point standings.

Darbyshire led the distance in Monday’s main event for IMCA J & J

Steel Late Models, keeping Justin Reed in check after a caution late

in the contest brought the 40-lapper to a tight green-white-checkered

finish.

Charlie McKenna, Terry Neal and Todd Cooney rounded out the top five.

The $2,000 victory also gave Darbyshire a two point edge over Cooney

in the standings after six of 17 scheduled events. While the string

of four first-time winners came to an end at Boone – Darbyshire also

owns a 2005 series win at Lee County Speedway – each feature held so

far this year has seen a different driver make his way to victory lane.

Dale Hackwell Jr. drew the pole and applied the early pressure on

Darbyshire, who charged ahead from his outside row one starting spot.

Reed, fresh off the win last Wednesday at Highway 3 Raceway in

Allison, moved up from eighth to mount a challenge of his own before

McKenna drove into second.

Reed regained the position two laps later, staying within shouting

distance of Darbyshire while McKenna, Neal and the 16th starting

Cooney ran hard close behind.

The late yellow bunched the field back up, but Darbyshire stayed in

the fast line to take the checkers two car lengths ahead of Reed.

The next Deery date is Tuesday, June 10 at Marshalltown Speedway. Pit

gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at

7:30 p.m.

Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on the midweek card.
