jamie37
yes they are having the wall bangers next year. I'm not sure what kind of car and what the rules are yet..but maybe if you get a hold of Nick he could probably tell you about it. But I know for sure they are having it with I think a $1000 claim rule. Like I said if you want more info. maybe Nick can help you there.
matt5858
I belive the class is called The Grand Class. The rules should be posted soon.
Truck99
Matt is correct - the class will be called the Grand Stock class. Rules were handed out at the rules meeting and should be posted on the website this week. cs
NickHolt
I talked to Brian today and he tells me that the Grand Stock class rules should be up in the next day or two. That should be a really fun, inexpensive class. Kinda makes me wanna build one just for the fun of it! Nick Holt
debwill
Nick, I guess that would definitely be a conflict of interest! LOL
matt5858
That would be one illegal car. . Right Nick.
NickHolt
matt5858 and debwill... Aw, come on you guys.... Well, OK then.. maybe you're right. Remind me to cancel my order for that traction control unit.. LOL But it sure does sound like a fun class. Not much money involved = tons of fun for the buck. matt5858
Yeah, It does sound interesting and I hope it goes real well for Thunderhill. They really need a class that is affordable to get into. I cant wait for next year. By the way Nick, I would drive that car for you.
WildRacer5
does anyone on the forum have the rules that they would like to post: Hey Nick any idea on the Wheelbase for these cars? You know the majority of us would like to see it be 108". Also does anyone know what type of purse this class will have or will it just be a trophy class? tqj3
The rules for all 2004 classes at Thunder Hill, including the new Grand class, are now posted on the web site.
NickHolt
WildRacer5, Also does anyone know what type of purse this class will have or will it just be a trophy class? Brian intended the Grand Stock class to be a trophy only class, but he has been persuaded to pay a very modest purse that might at least help with gas money. $75 for 1st, $50 for 2nd, $25 for 3rd and $10 for the rest of the teams starting the main event. As you probably know by now, the wheelbase rule for the Grand Stock class is 110." Nick Holt
WildRacer5
thanks Nick, I read the rules and liked most of it for what it was except the wheelbase. I still think that 108" would get more cars. I'm still not real wild about the whole claimer idea. It might almost be worth it to go ahead and build/ buy a hobby stock. $75.00 for a win would aleast cover the pitgate money for two people and gas so yes you're right. Jason
Why 110"? 108" will make it so CC bombers and SAS roadrunners can compete. Didn't we all discuss how common rules among tracks will help racing in Texas? It makes no sense why it is 110".
rebelracewriter
Nick, if you build it and I'll drive it on a "limited" basis. Don't want to lose my rookie status. LMAO
NickHolt
Jason ... Why 110"? 108" will make it so CC bombers and SAS roadrunners can compete. Didn't we all discuss how common rules among tracks will help racing in Texas? It makes no sense why it is 110". Although I was not employed at THR while the Grand Class rules were being developed, I imagine the 110 rule was intended to keep the Camaros and some of the Nova's out of the mix. I will check with Jack Sanderfur sometime this weekend and see if this is the case. REb... Nick, if you build it and I'll drive it on a "limited" basis. Don't want to lose my rookie status. LMAO I thought you were a dirt track specialist Reb, so I promised the Grand Class ride to Jeff Gordon.. or was it Dale Jr... Dang, I always get those two guys mixed up.. Jason
Nick, thats why you put "No Sports Cars" in the rules and deem the Camaro and Novas as sports cars.
rebelracewriter
Jason, If you go by a no "sports car" rule, then someone has to decide what classifies as one. With 110" wheelbase rule there is NO grey area! Nick, Does 5 races on dirt make me an "expert"? LOL
NickHolt
Reb ... You know what an expert is, right? An "ex" is a "has been" -- and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure." LOL Jason... I'm sure there are things that need to be looked at in any set of rules. Just as I'm sure there are some who think the 110" wheelbase rules is too short -- that it should be limited to 112" There is no way to please everyone with a set of rules, but I am the sort of guy who doesn't mind taking a good, hard look at rules that don't seem to make sense and, if needed, make changes. lbeaver087
i think they should have set the wheel base at 108 inch ,because i have an 84 monti carlo that is 108 inch wheel base, and then state that sport cars like comaro's,and novas are not allowed like in most rules i have seen at other tracks
matt5858
Well said lbeaver ... I agree with you. Those kind of cars are a dime a dozen.
