rebelracewriter
Here's a release I got from IMCA today. For Immediate Release Contact Bill Martin Dec. 19, 2003 (319) 472-2201, x225 New promoter sees plenty of potential at Pleasanton’s I-37 PLEASANTON, Texas (Dec. 19) – New promoter Joseph Horne won’t have to wait long to watch the first I.M.C.A. races of 2004 at I-37 Speedway. The 1/3-mile dirt track at Pleasanton opens Jan. 3 with the first of 13 consecutive Saturday dates in the Winter Series for sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Following a two-week break, the regular point season gets underway April 17 and runs through September. “We’re looking forward to next season. We’ve already done a lot of work at the track and are continuing to work diligently at more improvements,” said Horne, who headed what was then known as San Antonio Raceway in the 1980s and has continued his own competitive career on the track. “There’s a lot of potential here.” Grandstand seating has been improved and added, new lighting installed and concession stands upgraded. An old storage building has been removed from the grounds and improvements to the plumbing system are well underway. Safety lights and new signage are in the works, new staff has been hired and safety equipment added. Trained crews will man the safety vehicles. Car counts for a Thanksgiving weekend special and the track’s location on a major thoroughfare are encouraging for both Horne and track manager Frank Torres. “We’ll do everything we can to get people in the grandstands,” promised Torres, who will oversee day-to-day operations at I-37. “
