HOLZKAMPER LIGHTS UP O’REILLY USMTS NATIONAL TOUR FIELD AT WEST SILOAM SPEEDWAY

WEST SILOAM SPRINGS, Okla. (April 5) — Steve Holzkamper of Gentry, Ark., had all the power he needed Saturday night to score his second career O’Reilly USMTS National Tour triumph, but his march to victory was delayed nearly two hours as the West Siloam Speedway did not have the power they needed.

Just shortly before the Real Racing Wheels “B” Mains around 8:30 p.m., all electrical power at the track was lost. The culprit turned out to be a faulty transformer located a few miles away from the racetrack on Hwy. 412. Southwest Power Company crews were able to fix the problem, and races were back underway after a two-hour delay in the darkness.

In the Holley “A” Main, Holzkamper stole the limelight as he led all 40 laps from the pole position to pick up the $3,000 top prize. For the second straight night, Randy Timms of Wheatland, Okla., was forced to settle for the runner-up paycheck but pocketed a weekend-high $3,500 for his efforts.

Eight-time O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, picked up his first AFCO Pole Award of 2008, started fourth and finished third. Watertown, S.D.'s Jon Tesch raced from tenth to finish fourth while Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar Rookie of the Year points leader Brandon Kenny of East Woodward, Okla., scored a season-best fifth.

Jason Hughes, Eddie Martin, Rodney Sanders, Chad Wheeler and Jeremy Ross finished sixth through tenth, respectively.

The KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award went to Martin, who finished seventh after starting 16th on the 24-car starting grid.

The Ruter Farms Long Tow Award went to defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champ Jason Krohn, who earned an extra $100 to help pay his fuel bill after driving 1,282.94 miles round trip from his home in Slayton, Minn.

Shryock continues to lead Hughes in Mo-Kan Region points (580 to 543), followed by Tesch (518), Johnny Bone Jr. (490), John Allen (485), Krohn (453), Zack VanderBeek (435), Kenny (432), Justin Boney (422) and Greg Skaggs (402). All of the top ten drivers have perfect attendance in the region, so all ten are eligible for the Top Dog Bonus at the next Mo-Kan Region race on June 19 at the Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan.

Up next for the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour is the long-awaited first event in this year's Central States Region title chase. A huge field of cars are expected as the Mud-Slinging Modified Masters invade the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Friday, April 11. The tripleheader weekend continues on Saturday with the inaugural event at the La Salle (Ill.) Speedway, followed by the 2nd Annual Spring Clash on Sunday, April 13, at the Quad Cities Raceway in East Moline, Ill. All three events will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum $250 to start the main event.

The O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series season will start on Friday, April 18, at Golden Triangle Raceway Park (formerly Motorama Speedway) in Beaumont, Texas, and move over to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, on Saturday night, April 19.
