HUGHES BOUNCES BACK FOR O’REILLY USMTS NATIONAL TOUR WIN AT LEBANON

LEBANON, Mo. (March 29) — One mistake on Friday night at the LA Raceway was all that Kelly Shryock needed on to steal the win away from Jason Hughes, who led the first 29 of 35 laps. On Saturday night, Hughes was flawless at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway as he led wire to wire for his second O’Reilly USMTS National Tour win this season.

Just as it was last year when Hughes dominated the main event, promoter Randy Mooneyham had the legendary red clay oval in tip-top lightning-fast shape, and there was nobody fast enough to run down the polesitter.

Coming from the 14th starting spot, John Allen moved up through the field and actually ran side-by-side with Hughes for a couple of laps midway through the race, but Hughes was able to expand his lead over the final dozen circuits to sail to a $2,000 payday.

Shryock started next to Hughes on the front row of the 25-car starting grid, but fell back to as far as fourth place during the contest before clawing his way back to make a late-race pass of Allen and claim the runner-up spot. Johnny Bone Jr. raced from 13th to finish fourth while Greg Skaggs rounded out the top-5.

Defending O’Reilly USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn finished sixth, with Jay Noteboom seventh, Leslie Essary eighth, Chris Spieker ninth and Don Crnkovich in the tenth spot.

Shryock remains the points leader in the Mo-Kan Region heading into the fifth race of the region on Sunday night at the Monett (Mo.) Speedway. Allen moved up to second in the rankings, 44 markers behind Shryock (404 to 360). Hughes is third with 358 points, followed by Bone (354), Jon Tesch (353), Justin Boney (317), Skaggs (312), Zack VanderBeek (307), Dustin Boney (280) and Gary Langworthy Jr. (262).

The O’Reilly USMTS National Tour will wrap up the 5th Annual Missouri Nationals on Sunday at “The Grand Ole Lady” in Monett, Mo. Kelly Shryock captured the win in 2007 at the 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval en route to capturing the regional points crown.

Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 and racing action kicking off at 6:30.

Race fans can pick up $2-off coupons on Sunday at both Casey's General Stores locations in Monett: 728 Hwy. 60 and 1601 E. Cleveland Ave. Al Hejna will make his third stop of the weekend at the Cleveland Ave. location, appearing again from 12-2 p.m.

The Monett Speedway is located 1 mile east of SR 37 on US 60, then north on Chapel Dr. For more information, call the business office at 417-732-2766 or call the track at 417-236-0600 for day-of-the-race info. The track's website can be found at www.monettspeedway.net.
