"The Pro-Am Tour schedule was designed to incorporate exemplary facilities keeping the thoughts and concerns of our racers in mind," stated IHRA President Bill Bader. "With national event-track U.S 131 Motorsports Park and a number of existing Pro-Am tracks committing to major improvements, our racers are assured a competitive racing surface at the best facilities in each division." The season will kick-off January 30 – February 1, 2004, with the Division 2 race at Immokalee (Florida) Regional Raceway and will conclude September 3 – 5 with the Division 1 race at Virginia Motorsports Park. Division 1 races begin at Maryland International Raceway April 16 – 18. Quaker City Raceway, formerly in Division 3, has been moved to Division 1 to solidify its Western boundary, and remain an excellent out-of-division claim for Division 3 racers. A new venue for 2004, U.S. 131 Motorsports Park will host a Division 3 race. This premium national event facility will anchor the Northwestern boundary of the division and provide Division 5 racers an excellent out-of-division claim. Dragway 42 returns to the Division 3 schedule and the track is planning major renovations to prepare for the event, including concrete grinding and smoothing, a new asphalt racing surface and a new return road. (Check back to IHRA.com for a story detailing the renovations.) Emerald Coast Dragway will once again host a Division 2 race. The track, located in Holt, Fla., will undergo many off-season improvements prior to the race. (Check back to IHRA.com for a story detailing the renovations.) Division 4 consists of seven races, while the other divisions contain five. Due to the location of that division, extended travel is often required for those competitors to reach out-of-division races. By placing seven races within the region, drivers can compete in the maximum seven-event race claims, which is an essential part for chasing a Hooters IHRA World Championship, without leaving the division. Two Division 4 tracks – Tulsa International Raceway and West Texas Raceway Park – are undergoing major improvements to prepare for the 2004 season. (Check back to IHRA.com for a story detailing the renovations.) All divisional competitors will claim the best five of the first seven events attended. The seven events must include four races in your home division and the first events, up to three, out-of-division to total seven.
