debwill
Here are some notes from our FASCAR meeting earlier this week: Mike and Marilyn Sepich (SAS track manager and spouse) were added as honorary FASCAR members following a by-law change. The revised by-laws will be added to the FASCAR website soon. The 50/50 funds collected in 2003 have not be recovered yet. A Drivers' Contingency Fund for 2004 was approved. Letters will be sent to the SAS drivers during December. Minimal FASCAR participation will be required to qualify for the fund (attend at least three FASCAR meetings and participate in at least one car show during the year). FASCAR will strive to avoid car shows on race days. FASCAR meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. The SAS Common Interest Forum will resume again in Janaury, hopefully with more driver participants. A new class called WOW (Women on Wheels) will be added at SAS next year. Roadrunner cars will be used, along with a wing plate on the roof. It will be a sanctioned class, and Mike hopes to schedule at least ten races next year. WOW drivers may also compete in the Roadrunner class. The San Antonio Speedway Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Rigsby (Highway 87). Members agreed to change the FASCAR Driver of the Year Award to the Mary Balzer Memorial Driver of the Year Award. Award winners and FASCAR donations will be determined at the December meeting. Instead of conducting 50/50 sales or raffles next year, FASCAR will solicit donations from fans and drivers. A transluscent fuel jug will be used so the fund progress can be watched. FASCAR will maintain and monitor the funds. Progress on the fund will be announced regularly to the drivers and fans. Paying taxes on the funds may be required, but violations of gambling laws should not be a concern. Additional emphasis will also be placed on the donation of used printer cartridges to generate funds. Roadrunner and WOW drivers will be eligible for the FASCAR Member Bonus Awards next year when at least ten drivers get registered in those classes. A suggestion was made to combine a car show with the annual Daytona Watch Party in February. A possible location may be the Fire House Cafe on Walzem Road. Mike announced that on Wednesday, November 12, Debbie Williams was hired by San Antonio Speedway as the Marketing and Media Specialist. In addition to her marketing responsibilities for the track, she will be helping the drivers. He also mentioned that the 2004 rules will be posted on the SAS website soon. The next FASCAR meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Shoney's on Walzem Road.
