FANS FAVOR TEXAS IN NBC POLL

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (November 5, 2003) – In the Cingular Race Talk poll during Sunday’s NBC telecast of the NASCAR Winston Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway, race fans were asked, “Which of these single event race tracks would you most like to see get a second race?” The choices were 1) Texas, 2) Las Vegas, 3) Kansas and 4) Phoenix.

Texas Motor Speedway led the responses with 44% of those voting. Las Vegas Motor Speedway was second with 27%. Kansas Speedway was chosen by 17% of those voting with Phoenix receiving 12%.

In a ThatsRacin.com online poll that ended July 13, the website asked fans for their opinion on the following: “California has gotten a second Winston Cup race date from Rockingham, N.C. Which track should be next in line for a second date?” Texas Motor Speedway received 47.6% of the 5,294 votes cast followed by Kansas, 26.88%; Las Vegas, 16.94% and Chicagoland Speedway, 8.58%.

The website fielded a similar question that ended April 29 prior to the announced realignment. The question was: “No one but the NASCAR brass knows what will happen with the much-anticipated Winston Cup schedule realignment. But of these three, which track would you rather see get a second Winston Cup race date?” The choices were 1) Texas, 2) Kansas and 3) California Speedway. A total of 4,664 responses were received with Texas selected by 46.63%, Kansas by 37.56% and California by 15.8%.

Fans were also polled about potentially moving races on NASCAR.com in September of 2001 asking, “What should happen to the spring race at Darlington?” The choices were: 1) give it to Texas; 2) give it to Las Vegas; 3) give it to Fontana or 4) keep it at Darlington.

Of the 28% who wanted the race moved, 16% voted to move to race to Texas. That was 2½ times the number voting to move it to either Las Vegas or Fontana which received 6% of the vote each.
