I-Stocks

The I-Stock B-main started with Kenny Weir and Jason Bogard getting away clean as the rest of field stacked up. On lap 5 Bogard was looking low on Weir for the lead, while Darryl Campbell was looking to get by Anthony Otken for third. At the midpoint the top five were Weir, Bogard, Otken, Campbell and Trace Crawford. Bogard put the bumper to Weir for the lead as Otken and Campbell closed in. With two to go Campbell used the high side to get around Otken and on the final lap challenged Bogard for second. At the checkers it was Weir getting the win, with Bogard, Campbell, Otken, Crawford, Brian Bishnow, Steve Spoonts and Thomas Earl getting the transfer spots.

I-STOCK

B-MAIN—(First 8 transferred to A) 9. #20—Craig Brown, Killeen; 10. #181—Ed Thompson, Waco; 11. #871—Michael Darby, Wylie; 12. #213—Chuck Bish, Gatesville.

 

Benji Kirkpatrick and Kevin Sustaire led the 20 car I-Stock field to green with Kirkpatrick getting the lead. The caution flew early when Justin McGehee rolled to a stop in turn 3. Kirkpatrick had just started to ease away from Brandon Dulock, Sustaire and Doug Lorenz when caution fell again on lap 4, for a spin by Brandon Guerin that scattered the back of the pack.

 

Sustaire got by Dulock on the restart, with Mike Greer moving into to fifth. Pat Wilson and Otken got together in turn four to bring out another yellow on lap 6. Lorenz was able to move past Dulock on the restart as the top two pulled ahead. Dulock retook third on lap 8 as he got back around Lorenz.

 

Sustaire was looking for a way around Kirkpatrick on lap 9 trying the low side, but couldn’t get by. Greer spun from fifth in turn 3 and got clipped coming back on the track and suffered a flat right front. Otken and Jason Batt spun on lap 11 to bring out the yellow hanky once again. The top six all hung together on the restart, with the top five of Kirkpatrick, Sustaire, Dulock, Lorenz and Campbell at halfway.

 

Sustaire almost got along side Kirkpatrick on lap 14, but had to fall back in line. In the meantime, Dulock and Lorenz were side by side for third, as the lead duo increased their lead. Brian Bishnow used the high side to grab fifth from Campbell on lap 18. Kirkpatrick got a slight lead with five to go, only to have Sustaire close the gap, while Dulock reeled in both.

 

With two to go the top three were tied at the bumpers with Sustaire pushing Kirkpatrick and Dulock pushing Sustaire. Despite the slight contact the trio drive each other clean in the corners. Kirkpatrick was able to hold off the challenges to grab the victory in his M&M Paint and Body/Ledford Performance/Hornet Racing Graphics/Kinds Automotive/Photos by Debbie/homemade(Rebel) Chassis.

Street Stocks

In the first Street Stock B-main, Greg Culverhouse got the early lead only to spin. On the restart, David Khoury got the point and never looked back as he went on to the win and transfer with Chris Pickering, Darrell Dawson and Paul Steele.

The second Street Stock B-main saw Cory Teakell lead laps 1 and 2, giving way to David Cook. Cook held the point until lap 10, when Charlie Norris grabbed the top spot and held on for the victory, with Cook, Jimmy Criswell and Robert Simmerman moving on to the A-main.

In the 25 lap Street Stock main, Doug Andrews and TL Bright paced the 20 car pack to green. It was three wide for the lead as the green flew, with Arnold Hodges getting the top spot in turn 3. Bright fell into second while D. Andrews fell to fifth. By lap 5 Hodges was pulling as D. Andrews spun out through the pit gate.

 

Ritchie Robins moved in to battle Bright for second, with Jerry Whatley lurking in fourth. On lap 7 Robins and Whatley both got past Bright for second and third, respectively. By lap 10 Hodges was long gone building a full straightaway lead over Robins, with Mark Guerin closing on Whatley for third.

 

By halfway Hodges had built nearly a ½ track lead over Robins, Whatley, Guerin and Bright, with Robins trying to fight through traffic. Bright slowed quickly on lap 17, as Guerin was making the pass on Whatley for third. Hodges ran into to heavy traffic with five to go allowing Robins to close little by little. Guerin would go up in smoke and fall out of third.Despite being hung up by traffic, Hodges was able to hang on to a comfortable lead and go on to find the winners circle.

Pure Stocks

The 13 car Pure Stock, B-main #1 had Jeffrey Sheppard get the early lead. Sheppard gave up the point to David Sarkies on lap 4. Sarkies from there went on to take the checkers, along with Sheppard, Kenny Fieldlin and John Cook.

Michael Haisler led all laps in B-main #2 but the last one, when Kirk Tidwell got by on the final circuit to snare the win. Others making the transfer were, Haisler, Robert Black and David Clements.

B-MAIN # 2—(Top 4 transferred to A) 5. #14—Kenny Bruce, Midlothian; 6. #34—Wayne Bowman, Athens; 7. #57—Kevin Smith, Waco; 8. #54—Melvin Kemp, Riesel; 9. #78—Martin Quiram, Hubbard; 10. #177—Joshua Letson, Alvarado; 11. #26—Corky Coffer, West.

 

In the Pure Stock 25 lap, A-main Kyle Dowdle and Doug Andrews started on the front row. Dowdle got the early lead and battled with David Williams, as Andrews fell back. Dowdle and Williams battled side by side for lead, with Andrews waiting for a mistake. Williams and Andrews made contact, with Williams spinning and Randall Craft moving up into second.

 

Andrews got back by Craft for second on lap 8 as the top three inched away. Andrews moved along side Dowdle on lap 10 and just as Dowdle spun, the yellow came out for a big pile up. Dowdle got the top spot back, but it didn’t take Andrews long to get as he made the pass for the lead on lap 12 when Dowdle slid high.

 

Ken Boatman was on the charge moving into third at halfway from his 6th row start. Andrews was motoring away as Craft and Boatman battled for second. Boatman made the pass for the runner up spot on lap 15. With five to go Andrews had built a full straight lead, while Boatman was getting away from Craft. Andrews able to cruise on to take the checkers.

Mini Stock

The 20 car Mini Stock was a runaway as Jeremy Oliver got the lead and quickly built a straightaway lead over the field. Oliver had little trouble fighting through traffic and increased his lead to a ½ track, with a 10 car pack battling for second. As the checkers flew Oliver had lapped up to the seventh place car.
