Saturday Night Finals

In the first 12 car, Modified B-main, Chase Glick got out to the early lead but spun on the start of lap two and continued on, Mike Hathcock also spun to bring out the yellow. On the restart Robert Taylor got the lead only to have action slowed again when Ch. Glick got together with Josh McMelban, with McMelban spinning. With Taylor still in the lead the caution came out again on lap 3 when Mitch Hardman hit the wall.

Back under green, Allen Waltermire smoked his motor on lap 4 while running third. Danny Gribble moved in to challenge Taylor for the lead on lap 5, but caution flew again as Hardman and Ben Keyser found the wall, with Keyser’s car being heavily damaged. On the restart Ch. Glick and Jimmy Bragewitz got by Gribble for second and third.

Bragewitz and Ch. Glick swapped second on lap 8 with Ch. Glick ending up with the spot. Ch. Glick then moved in to challenge Taylor and was able wrestle away the top spot on lap 11. From there Ch. Glick went on to take the win and transfer along with Taylor, Bragewitz and Gribble.

At the first start of the second Modified B-main, Ben Ketteman jumped into the lead only to have the caution come out when Joey Smith and Glen Derks tangled in turns 3-4. Ketteman again grabbed the top spot on the second try, with HOT track champion, Keith Green quickly moving up to third from his 4th row start.

Ketteman pulled out to a good lead while Hardy Henderson and Green battled for second. At halfway the top five were Ketteman, Henderson, Green, Wayne Walker and David Cooke. On lap 8 Cooke closed in on Walker, in only his second dirt race, for the final transfer. With two to go, Ketteman had a comfortable lead, with Henderson and Green still scrapping for second. On the final lap Cooke got Walker for fourth, with Ketteman taking the victory and moving on with Henderson, Green and Cooke.

Johnny Sheets and Russ Reed paced the 20 car field to green at the start of the $1500 to win, 25 lap A-main. As the green flew Reed got turned around in front of the field with the inevitable chain reaction following. Chase Glick was the big loser as he broke the front suspension, while several others suffered mostly sheet metal damage.

The second attempt at a start had Chris Glick move along side Sheets on the front row. Sheets got out first while Cr. Glick got hung up on the high side and fell back to fourth. Glenn Leuschner took little time getting around Pat McGuire for second, while Tomastik Motorsports teammates, Greg Atwood and Keith White, battled side by side for sixth on lap 3.

Yellow flew on lap 4 when Jimmy Bragewitz rolled to stop in turns 3-4. On the restart, JP Dowell got past McGuire for third as Sheets and Leuschner got away. Leuschner started to put the heat on Sheets, taking looks inside on lap 7. After a few tries low, Leuschner then moved up to the high side, while Atwood and Cr. Glick battled for fifth.

As the crossed flags were shown it was Sheets, Leuschner, McGuire, Dowell and Cr. Glick rounding out the top five. Leuschner went back to the low side and was able to get along side Sheets on lap 13 and finalized the pass for the lead on lap 14. As Leuschner edged away, Cr. Glick and Dowell fought it out for fourth as they both closed in McGuire. Dowell held off Cr. Glick and then set his sights on McGuire for third.

On lap 18, Cr. Glick slipped high and fell out of the top five while battling with Dowell and McGuire. With five to go, Leuschner was still inching away from Sheets who had a four car margin over McGuire. Sheets closed back in on lap 22, while White, on the high side got along Atwood for fifth. White then moved along side Dowell as they ran wheel to wheel for the spot.

Sheets was never able to mount a serious challenge on Leuschner in the final laps and it was Leuschner taking the checkers in his Toms Food Mart/SVT Graphics/Wells Racing Engines/ Tay-But Chassis.

On the next start, David Cook and Matt Wester hooked bumpers and spun through the infield, chasing my photographer, Marc Roy.(Run Forrest Run-LMAO) Chase Jupe got the lead only to do a 360% spin and giving the lead to Jody Buzbee. Cogburn jumped out to the point at the start, with Ritchie Robins moving inside Wilson for second. On laps 2 and 3 Wilson and Bennie Everhart swapped the third spot, on lap 4 Wilson snagged second back from Robins.

Everhart and Robins were swapping third when caution came out for debris on the track. On the restart, Robins grabbed second as the top three eased ahead slightly. Sid Kiphen had just gotten past Everhart when the yellow flew for a spin by Cody Frank. Cogburn got loose on the restart allowing Wilson to get along side. Cogburn fought him off to hold the lead while Robins snuck in for second.

Kiphen finally finished his pass of Everhart for fourth on lap 8 as Cogburn held a four car advantage over Robins, who had a gap back to Wilson and Kiphen. At the mid point it was Cogburn, Robins, Wilson, Kiphen and TJ Green. Robins reeled Cogburn back in on lap 15, with Wilson and Kiphen side by side for third.

Wilson and Kiphen hooked bumpers and slid through the infield, giving third to Green as Kiphen fell to sixth and Wilson to eleventh. By lap 20, Cogburn and Robins had a big gap back to Green in third, while Everhart and Dave Stewart battled for fourth. Cogburn got a little breathing room on lap 21 when Robins got hung up by a lap car. On the last lap Cogburn had to go three wide, as two slower cars battled for position, on his way to grab the checkers in his Dameron Motorsports/American Concrete/Robinson Duplexes/Race Engine Solutions/Dick Kettler Attorney at Law/Criserio Concrete Contractors/Smileys Chassis.
