ASCS Canyon Region Ready for Pepsi Pole Challenge

 

 

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (October 1, 2007) – The wingless warriors of the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region have one last chance to get dialed in for the ASCS Western World Championships with this Saturday night's event atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ.

 

 

 

While current ASCS Canyon Region points leader Jeremy Sherman shoots for his twelfth win of the year, an extra $800 will be up for grabs during the night with the "Pepsi Pole Challenge".

 

 

 

Upon the completion of heat race action, the top eight in passing points will advance to the Dash. A series of one-on-one challenge races will ensue, beginning with seventh vs. eighth, then that winner versus sixth and so on. Each challenge winner receives $100, with the final challenge winner pocketing an additional $100 to run the total for the "Pepsi Pole Challenge" to $800.

 

 

 

Closing in on the ASCS Canyon Region championship, Sherman outlasted Charles Davis, Jr., thisp past weekend for his eleventh series win of the year. With the victory, Sherman extended his points lead to 155 markers over Davis.

 

 

 

Bob Ream, Jr., holds down the third position, just 14 points ahead of Mike Leslie with Andrew Reinbold rounding out the current top five.

 

 

 

The balance of the current top ten in points includes Josh Pelkey, Shon Deskins, Seainn Hendricsen, Bernie Smith and Mike Martin.

 

 

 

Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.

 

 

 

Saturday's ASCS Canyon Region action at Manzanita Speedway fires off at 7:30 p.m.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.

 

 

 

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
