Berryman Back on Top with Another ASCS Gulf South Win

Lonnie Wheatley, BAYTOWN, Texas (September 29, 2007) – Brandon Berryman proved to be in the right place at the right time as he captured his fourth American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region win of the year in Saturday night's 25-lap feature at Houston Raceway Park.

Berryman took the lead when race leader Ray Allen Kulhanek tangled with a lapped car on the 22nd lap and went on to score the $2,000 win aboard the Westside Performance-powered JDM Trucking No. 31 Triple-X.

With the win, Berryman took over the series points lead, moving 14 points ahead of ninth-place finisher Skip Wilson with just next Saturday night's season finale at Pike County Speedway remaining.

Starting midpack, Berryman worked his way forward as Pole Dash winner Dustin Morgan paced the early rounds. Morgan led the opening ten circuits until the red flag flew for Tracy Knighton's turn three flip.

On the restart, Kulhanek raced around Morgan to take the lead. Kulhanek led the way until running afoul of lapped traffic on the 22nd lap and handing the lead to Berryman, who had climbed to second.

Berryman led the final circuits, with Eric Baldaccini claiming runner-up honors in front of Johnny Miller and Chris Sweeney, with Brandon Corn rounding out the top five in his first start of the season.

Scottie McDonald was sixth, with defending series champion Gary Watson, 17th-starter Greg Rilat, Wilson and Bruce Crockett completing the top ten.

Baldaccini, Tracy Cearley, Miller and Corn topped heat race action, with Rilat winning the "B" Main.
