NeilTPS
Sergio Hexsel wins 2007 TPS Title, Ja Lane wins TPS Race Thunderhill Raceway, Kyle, Texas (September 29, 2007) By: Neil Upchurch, Texas Pro Sedans – Race Director It was the final race of the Texas Pro Sedans 32nd consecutive season. It was the biggest race at the 3/8 mile D shaped oval in Kyle, Texas. It was the 11th Annual Thunderhill Raceway “Texas Stock Car Spectacular”. Twelve classes, including the Texas Pro Sedans, showed their class to a good size grandstand crowd. It was a “Stock Car Spectacular” race night and the TPS Championship Title was on the line. In Qualifying Time Trials, Ja Lane posted a new record time among the field of 17 Texas Pro Sedans. His new record lap time was 16.641 in his #85 Ford Focus. In posting fast time, Lane earned the pole position for the 32 lap TPS Feature Race and three bonus points. Sergio Hexsel won the 2007 TPS Driver Championship in his #20 VW Rabbit. It was his second TPS championship since 2005. Ja Lane won the TPS “Rookie of the Year” award and placed 2nd in the points chase. Only four points separated Hexsel and Lane at seasons end. On the first lap of the TPS Feature Race, Ja Lane took the lead and held it for all 32 laps. Sergio Hexsel followed Lane closely for the entire race. They crossed the finish line with only 1.75 seconds separating 1st and 2nd place. The race win was Lane’s fourth in Texas Pro Sedans competition during the 2007 racing season. Hexsel won three Feature Races and placed second four times. Behind Hexsel was another impressive TPS Rookie Mike Merrell of Kingsland, Texas who placed third. Another good race was posted by Mike Knotts who finished fourth. Both Merrell and Knotts drove VW Sciroccos. Bill LaBarge placed 5th in his BMW. Placing sixth and returning to TPS racing action was Jamie Garner in John Wasek’ s #74 VW Scirocco. Awards will be presented at the Texas Pro Sedans annual Awards Dinner on November 10, 6:00pm at Carlos Kelly’s Restaurant in San Antonio on Highway 87, two miles east of Loop 410.
