rebelracewriter
80 IMCA Stocks and 40 IMCA hobby Stocks were signed in to qualify through heats, last chances and a B-main. The procedure was a little different than the past in an attempt to save some time. In the IMCA Stock A-Qualifier, Dan Johnson and Allen Bradley lead the 20 car field, but it was Mike Nichols from row two grabbing the early lead. IMCA Stock National Champion, Duain Pritchett took a short trip through the infield as the field stacked up in turn two. Nichols and Jeff Anderson began to edge ahead of a side by side battle for third between Tim Clonch and Johnson, with Clonch getting the position. By lap 5, the two out-of-staters were a good distance ahead of Clonch, until caution bunched the field for a spin by Dennis Sartain after hitting an infield tire. A lap after the restart Clonch moved around Anderson for second as the top three stayed together. On lap Chad Estes began his charge to the front getting by Trey Jarrel for fourth. Clonch was looking Nichols on lap 8 for the lead, while Estes was getting by Anderson for third. At the mid point it was Nichols, Clonch, Estes, Anderson and Jarrell rounding out the top five. Lap 11 saw the second caution fly when Johnson and Jason Schoenberger got tangled in turn two. On the restart, Bradley spun, to quickly slow the action. Once under green, Nichols got a car length on Clonch, but Clonch closed back in. Lap 14 had Pritchett working his way back to the top five as he passed Jarrel for fifth. Clonch continued to pressure Nichols for the lead and finally got along side on lap 15, and grabbed the top spot on lap 16. Estes followed Clonch through the hole as the top three were moving away from Anderson and Pritchett. At the checkers, it was Clonch in his Cotton Racing Engines/Smileys car taking the win. ******Results Unofficial Pending Tech***** IMCA Stock 1 Tim Clonch 2 Chad Estes 3 Mike Nichols 4 Jeff Anderson 5 Duain Pritchett 6 Trey Jarrel 7 Doug Lorenz 8 Rodney Everhart 9 Raymond King 10 Brandon Ellison 11 Craig Brown 12 JW Johnson 13 Arlen Cochran 14 Allen Bradley 15 Dennis cSartain 16 Phil Egbert 17 Toay Hill 18 Jason Schoenberger 19 Jon Nielson 20 Dan Johnson Polesitter Randell Jones got the lead from fellow front row starter Jerry West as the green flew on the IMCA Hobby Stock A-Qualifier. Jesse Miller and Bill Richards battled side by side for third, with Richards getting the spot. Scott Pyle used the opening to get by Miller as well. Lap 4 saw a three wide baatle for 7th between Joey Patterson, Charles Garza and Chris Meyers. By lap 5 Jones was pulling away from West who fell back to the clutches of Pyle. Pyle snared second from West on the next lap and went in search of the leader, Jones. Pyle reeled in Jones and made quick work of him as he took over the point on lap 9. Richards was able to get past West as the race came to halfway. The top five at that point were Pyle, Jones, Richards, West and Miller. Pyle got a scare as he got hung behind lap traffic for several laps. While trying to get by Larry Abels, the two made contact, but Pyle was able to hang on and maintain his advantage. With five to go Jones and Richards were scrapping for second as Pyle continued to slice and dice through lap cars. As the white was shown, Pyle had a good lead over the second place fight and went to take the checkers.
