Herrera Claims ASCS Rocky Mountain Gold at Aztec

 

Lonnie Wheatley, AZTEC, N.M. (September 14, 2007) – When the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region visited Aztec Speedway last year, Johnny Herrera swept both nights of action.

 

 

 

Herrera picked right up where he left off by wiring the field in Friday night's 25-lap feature to open the two-night stand for the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region at Aztec Speedway.

 

 

 

The Albuquerque, NM, hotshoe was chased to the line by Liberal, KS, racer Jason Martin, with defending series champion Patrick Bourke, current series points leader C.J. Johnson and Lorne Wofford rounding out the top five.

 

 

 

Keith Rauch was sixth, with Joe McCarthy charging from 19th to seventh. Derrik Ortega, Nick Haygood and Jess Baker completed the top ten.

 

 

 

Bo Baker, Herrera, Martin and Bourke topped heat race action for the 33-car field, with Gary Taylor and John Jacob splitting "B" Main victory honors.
