FORT WORTH-DALLAS (October 11, 2003) - Jason Johnson, the "Cajun Sensation," electrified the Cheaper Than Dirt Shootout crowd Saturday night enroute to his first career O'Reilly World of Outlaws sprint car feature victory at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. Chris Henigan won the modified stock invitational.

Johnson made a late-race rush utilizing the top groove of the four-tenths mile clay oval and shot from mid-pack to the lead, overtaking O'Reilly World of Outlaws point leader Steve Kinser on the 35th lap and proceeding to the $12,000 victory.

"I really have to thank (car owner) Al Harrison," shouted the jubilant victor in an emotionally-charged victory lane. "He gets upset with me some days. But he puts me in really good equipment. I lived in Texas for three years, this is home.

"I was racing the race track, not the other drivers," continued Johnson. "I

started in the back and ran it for all it was worth. I didn't hold anything

back."

Until the last quarter of the race, it appeared Steve Kinser would finish off a

clean sweep of all four nights of O'Reilly WoO competition at the Dirt Track in 2003. Kinser was clearly the class of the field in the Quaker State Maxim with Daryn Pittman the only driver able to keep pace.

Johnson made his first real noise of the 40-lap feature when he passed

fourth-place Shane Stewart riding the cushion on lap 30. Two rounds later he pushed the Harrison Trucking Eagle around Joey Saldana at the start-finish line for third. On lap 34 the "Sensation" blew by Pittman then brought the crowd to its feet by finishing off "The King" on lap 35. Johnson ran away to post a

3.97-second victory over Kinser.

"This late in the season, it was a successful weekend," said 17-time series

title winner Kinser. "It would have been great to get the win but we extended the lead in the points championship. We had some motor problems and lost a valve with about 10 laps to go. It was just good to finish the race."

Saldana kept working the low groove, finding late-race success in his show

position. "We got Pittman at the end," said the "Brownsburg Bullet." "It turned out to be about track position. Jason could run high in three and four, nobody else could. If the race was longer, I could have gotten Steve."

Pittman's early challenge to the lead backed up because of motor woes. "We were good but nearly blew up at the end with about 10 laps to go. We finished the race running on six or seven cylinders.

Henigan led all 20 laps of the modified invitational for his first career

victory at the Dirt Track. Todd Short moved into the runnerup spot on lap 11 but could never work his way past Henigan. Jason Ilich took the show place payoff.

The 2004 Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track schedule will be announced in the near future.
