PITTMAN WITHSTANDS BRAVERY SHOWDOWN WITH STEVE KINSER

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (October 10, 2003) - Friday night's opening program of the Cheaper Than Dirt Shootout for O'Reilly World of Outlaws sprint cars at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track turned into a will of the ways between the "King of the Outlaws," Steve Kinser, and one of the bright new superstars on the circuit, Daryn Pittman.

Kinser has collected many of his 495 O'Reilly World of Outlaws career victories by being the bravest sprint car driver on dirt. Pittman won the bravery battle to claim the 30-lap preliminary feature on the four-tenths mile clay oval and the $5,000 top prize.

King Kinser threw three vicious slides at Pittman and his Hop-n-Sak CMC sprintcar in the closing laps of the main event but the Oklahoma youngster never budged an inch and beat the veteran to the finish line by 1.59 seconds. It wasone of the most exciting races in the four-year history of the facility.

On the eve of the OU-UT Red River Shootout college football game, Pittman led a charge into Texas from north of the Red River. Pittman, from Owasso, visited victory lane while the Tulsa-area car of Court Grandstaff, driven by Australian Brooke Tatnell, placed third against the Oklahoma City-based MIN Motorsports team and driver Shane Stewart who placed fourth. With their finishes, Pittman,Kinser, Tatnell and Stewart will start at the front of Saturday night's dash race.

Kinser increased his point lead over Danny Lasoski who was involved in a

three-way dogfight for the lead with Sammy Swindell in the opening laps. Kinser and Lasoski made contact in turn three, Lasoski slowed on the ensuing lap and brought out the yellow flag. He returned but could only muster a 16th-place showing.

Clyde Dunn Jr. won the modified invitational race.

The Cheaper Than Dirt Shootout concludes Saturday night with the 40-lap feature offering $12,000 to win. Another program of modifieds will also be contested.
