Nationals KENNEDALE, Texas (Feb. 23) – Kennedale Speedway Park takes its turn in hosting the Texas I.M.C.A. Nationals, sched-uled for Saturday and Sun-day, May 24-25. Sanctioned Modifieds and Stock Cars will be joined by the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stocks as a dozen tracks in Texas and New Mexico pool their time and talent in promoting the fourth annual event. Sponsored by Sunoco Race Fuels and Day Motor Sports, the Texas I.M.C.A. Nationals pays $2,000 to the Modified champion, $1,500 to the Stock Car winner and $250 for first in the Hobbies. National, regional and state points will be given in all three divisions. “The effort that goes into planning and staging these races is enormous,” I.M.C.A. Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “The success of this event is due in large part to the cooperation between the promoters involved and their willingness to work together in a common ven-ture.” Joining KSP as co-pro-moters of the Texas I.M.C.A. Nationals are 281 Speedway at Stephenville, Abilene Speedway, Boyd Raceway, Heart O’ Texas Speedway at Waco, Lub-bock Motor Speedway, Super Bowl Speedway at Greenville, Grayson County Speedway at Bells, Texas Thunder Speedway at Killeen, Thunderbird Speedway at Crandall, Thunder Mountain Speed-way at Rusk and Cardinal Motor Speedway in Eunice, N.M. All 12 will eschew their own weekly shows that weekend to promote the multi-division special at Kennedale. Gates open at 4 p.m. for an open practice on Friday, May 23. That session runs from 6-10 p.m. on the quarter-mile dirt oval. Saturday sees the start of qualifying for Modifieds and Stock Cars, and the entire Hobby Stock pro-gram. Modifieds and Stocks complete qualifying, with feature races for both classes bringing Sunday’s show to a conclusion. Gates open at 2 p.m., hot laps are at 4 p.m., the draw closes at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6 p.m. both days. Rain date is Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.
