Davis Rallies for ASCS Canyon Region Triumph at Manzanita

 

Lonnie Wheatley, PHOENIX, Ariz. (August 25, 2007) – Charles Davis, Jr., broke Jeremy Sherman's stranglehold on American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region victory lane at Manzanita Speedway in Saturday night's 30-lap feature. And he did it in the most dramatic of fashions, as the storied racetrack celebrated its 56th Anniversary.

 

 

 

Making his first start aboard Jim Massey's No. 50 entry, Davis tagged the tail of the 25-car feature field and overtook Sherman on the final lap to capture his second ASCS Canyon Region feature win of the year and first atop Manzanita's ½-mile clay oval.

 

 

 

When Sherman ran low on fuel on the final round and faltered momentarily, Davis took quick advantage and denied Sherman his eighth triumph in as many ASCS Canyon Region events at Manzanita Speedway this season.

 

 

 

A pair of young guns led the feature field to the green flag, with 16-year-old Michael Colegrove setting the pace after winning the Pole Dash with 18-year-old rookie contender Jeremy Reagles alongside.

 

 

 

But current series points leader Sherman, who marched from twelfth to third in the Dash, soon took command. While Sherman led Colegrove and Reagles, Davis was busy slicing through the field.

 

 

 

Davis reached the runner-up slot and charged into the lead on the final circuit to steal the victory.

 

 

 

Sherman held on for second, with Colegrove, Reagles and 14th-starter Josh Pelkey rounding out the top five.

 

 

 

Bob Ream, Jr., was sixth, with 15th-starter Chris Bonneau, 21st-starter Bobby Taylor, 17th-starter Bobby Taylor and Andrew Reinbold completing the top ten.
