ASCS Gulf South Region Ready for Weekend Double

 

 

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (August 14, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region is set for a pair of events this weekend in southern portion of Texas, taking to Motorama Speedway in Beaumont, TX, on Friday night before moving on to Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX on Saturday night.

 

 

 

With nine of the series opening 14 events of the season rained out, three of the completed events have been at Motorama Speedway with one other at Houston Raceway Park.

 

 

 

Jason Johnson, Brandon Berryman and Michael Dupuy have each been victorious in ASCS Gulf South action at Motorama Speedway, with Johnny Miller topping the Houston Raceway Park event. Scottie McDonald became the series fifth different winner in as many event by topping the most recent card on July 28 at 105 Speedway in Cleveland, TX.

 

 

 

Skip Wilson of Mesquite, TX, leads the series championship points chase entering the weekend, holding a 12-point advantage over fellow North Texas racer Johnny Miller of Burleson, TX. Tied for third another 16 points back are Brandon Berryman of Missouri City, TX, and past series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek of Conroe, TX, with defending series champion Gary Watson of Beaumont, TX, rounding out the current top five.

 

 

 

The balance of the current top ten includes Jimmy Brooks (College Station, TX), three-time series points runner-up Greg Rilat (Texas City, TX), Chris Sweeney (Channelview, TX), Tommy Bryant (Montgomery, TX) and Kent Lewis, Jr. (Willis, TX).

 

 

 

Friday's action at Motorama Speedway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Houston Raceway Park set to fire off at 7:30 p.m.

Following the early season rainouts, the 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region now consists of 15 events at eight different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

 

 

 

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
