Deery Series tops Aug. 8 ‘Dirt at The Downs’ show

 

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Aug. 3) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series takes top billing at Hawkeye Downs Speedway’s annual ‘Dirt at The Downs’ special next Wednesday night, Aug. 8.

 

Joining the IMCA Sunoco Late Model tour on the asphalt at Cedar Rapids are the sanctioned Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions.

 

Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

 

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students (12-17), and $1 for kids 11 and under.

 

Three-time feature winner Jeremy Grady of Story City will bring a 15 point advantage over Marshalltown’s Darrel DeFrance into the Cedar Rapids show, the 10th of 15 events on the 2007 series schedule. Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Terry Neal of Ely and Andy Nezworski of Buffalo round out the current top five in points.

 

Defending series champion Jeff Aikey of Waterloo and Mike Smith of Jewell have each won three of the previous 14 series events at Hawkeye Downs. Neal was the winner at Cedar Rapids last August.
