You have a Texas treasure here

I'm one of those "visitors" or "lurkers" coming out of the closet. For the past three years I have checked in here regularly to see what's going on in Texas. I finally decided to register and post, mostly because I suspect that some of you don't appreciate what you have going for you on Texasspeedzone.

If you have ever been to other racing forums, you know that some are soapboxes for bashers to promote their personal causes. Or worse. Some of them are disgusting any way you look at it. A whole bunch more have become outlets for spammers trying to pitch everything from Viagra to porn sites. If there are moderators on some of those sites, they are not very effective.

TSZ is one of the rare racing sites that actually address real issues and trys to allow both sides of any issue to have a say as long as they keep from bashing or cussing or whatever. Since I'm not from Texas, I really don't know all the inside dirt and background for many of the issues that are discussed here, but it is very clear that both sides are given their opportunity to speak to the issues. At least that is what I have seen.

The history section alone is absolutely priceless. And it looks like the Classified section has a tremedous success rate. Those two features alone make this site a treasure.

I don't know who is responsible for what around the site, but I'd say someone (Nick - Deb - Both?) is putting in a lot of time and effort to make this site the most valuable racing site in your part of the country.

Mr. Around, ( ;) )

We in Texas thank you for noticing. I have always felt this was a unique website. I thank Mr. Dickerson for having it, All the work that Nick and Deb put in on it, and even the monkey... I mean Jason for starting it and being smart enought to envision it and allow Nick to have the run of it back in the day. I know some might disagree, but the fact is that Nick Holt deserves the bulk of the credit for this site. Kudos to you Nick. Sometimes it takes an outsider to point out what is right in front of your face so you can see it.

Ben,

Where do I send the check?

Seriously, while still in high school Jason had the vision to put this site up. A lot of the success this site has enjoyed is because of his dedication, skill and perseverance even at his very young age. While Jason has make it clear that he is no Nick Holt fan, he certainly deserves a whole lot of the credit for TXSZ and I am not at all reluctant to say so because it's the truth.

Another key element is the work that Jay Hallas does week in and week out - especially for our many dirt track fans, competitors, sponsors and track owners/promoters. He has put a lot of time, effort and un-reimbursed expenses into keeping us up to date. Besides that, he's a good and loyal friend.

Deb Williams contributes in many valuable ways. She is always a voice of reason when she posts and helps out in many behind-the-scenes ways. Many of the front page graphics and pics are the result of her editing and FTP skills.

And let's not forget the site's owners who have been faithful in providing the funds and support needed to keep the site afloat. Terry Dickerson, and his lovely wife Tammy, have been remarkably patient and supportive of our efforts here. There were many times when the Dickersons would have been entirely justified in taking this site down. I'm glad they didn't.

But by far the biggest factor in the success of TXSZ is the good will and continuing support of our many members and visitors. Do we ever have family squabbles? Of course, any healthy family does. But somehow we all work things out and get back to our main mission of supporting racing in Texas.

I think Nick deserves a lot more credit for the way the site is run now. He and I disagree on many things, but I am in absolute agreement that we don't have to be profane or insulting. Some senator once said the trick was to learn to disagree without being disagreeable, and that pretty much covers it.

Some of us have also been around long enough to know what Jason went through, starting at the age of 16, in setting up and administering this site. He's someone else with whom I have often disagreed, but for the most part (and as we got to know each other better through the web site and the old chat room) we've been civil. Not to dismiss all of the other contributions (I still don't know how Hallas covers as much as he does, and on that point, I have never had anything but respect for him), I'd say Jason and Nick are the only reasons the site has not only survived, but grown. If either of them had not been there, neither would Texas Speed Zone.

Many thanks, guys.

I appreciate the support of the TSZ members and guests. The diversity of the users makes this site interesting. I don't think Jason ever imagined that it would grow to be such a valuable asset.

I must admit that Nick does most of the work. He is very efficient at monitoring all of the inidividual sections of the website and takes on the tough task of screening and maintaining the membership lists and applications.

Most of all, I value it as the best source of information for upcoming races, schedules, special events, etc. Actually, it's quite addictive - very few days go by that I don't access the website. And I agree with oldtimer - have met quite a few people through this website. It's great to put the names with the faces.

Thanks, Jason, for your creation and vision for this great racing communication tool. And I appreciate that Terry continues to give us such a great place to keep in touch with our racing friends.
