SAMMY SWINDELL READY FOR TEXAS SHOWDOWN INVASION

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (September 30, 2003) – Three-time O’Reilly World of Outlaws sprint car champion Sammy Swindell is looking forward to breaking up the Steve Kinser-Danny Lasoski dominance at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track during the October 10-11 Texas Showdown.

Swindell will be making his first appearance at the four-tenths mile Dirt Track since the 2001 season. The Tennessee veteran will wheel the Beef Packers/Ore-Cal J&J sprint car for owner Dennis Roth both evenings.

Kinser and Lasoski are embroiled in a season-long battle for the O’Reilly World of Outlaws championship with Kinser currently just 74 points ahead. The duo has won four of the six O’Reilly World of Outlaws races held at the Dirt Track since 2000 and staged an epic fight for the top spot in this spring’s race.

Swindell has yet to visit victory lane at the Dirt Track with his best finish a fifth in 2000. Swindell recently added Ray Brooks as his new crew chief and he is optimistic about a good finish at Texas.

“We are steadily making little changes to the cars,” said the 1981, 1982 and 1997 World of Outlaws champion. “We are getting them back to a normal baseline that we can work from. I like running at Texas and think we will do good there.”

Swindell is competing part-time on the O’Reilly World of Outlaws circuit again this year, using the free weekends to assist his son Kevin in go-kart and mini-sprint competition. “He has won all of his mini-sprint races this year. He is doing very well.”

Swindell, Kinser and Lasoski will be joined by series stars Joey Saldana, Daryn Pittman, Donny Schatz, Jason Sides, Brian Paulus, Paul McMahan and Jason Meyers in the Texas Showdown. Full sprint car programs will be presented nightly along with a modified stock car invitational race. Texas Showdown tickets are available by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com, at Ticketmaster locations and will be on sale at the gate each race night.
