Curry Wins One Battle & War in Street Stock Twin 25's

Kyle, Texas. The first of two 25 lap Street Stock mains started straight up by qualifying, with 2003 Street Stock Champion, Cary Staap setting fast time and getting the pole. 19 cars took the green with Staap getting out first over outside front row driver Marc Currey. On lap 2 Duane Toyne took his first of two trips off the back stretch, Toyne repeated the excursion on lap 4.

By lap 10, Staap and Currey were pulling away from the pack and were followed by Marvin Buck, Jim Teague and Shawn Lehman as the halfway flags were shown. Robert Barrow and Doug Ripple brought out the yellow after contact on lap 14 sent Ripple spinning. Back under green, Currey was able to get along side Staap as the two ran side by side for the point on lap 17. Currey secured the spot on lap 18, before caution flew on lap 19 for a spin by Terry Tschoerner. Currey inched away in the final laps to take the checkers.

The second Street Stock main started with all the lead lap cars inverted, putting Terry Tschoerner and Ron O’Brien on the front row, while Currey and Staap started in row 7. On the initial start O’Brien spun taking Doug Ayers, Robert Barrow and Shawn Lehman off in turn 2. As the green flew again it was Tschoerner getting the lead with the pack three wide in turn three and, believe it or not, four wide coming out of four, with everyone surviving.

Ripple pressured Tschoerner hard with a couple bumper taps that stacked up the field. Staap was the big loser as he had moved up to 8th but fell back to 10th after they sorted out. Currey using the high side was also moving up as the top twelve were nose to tail and side by side by lap 10. At this point Ripple spun from second scattering the field and bringing out the caution.

At the crossed flags Tschoerner still held the lead over Buck Basey, Bruce Hinson, Ayers and Teague. Basey took several looks low on Tschoerner but fell back into line, when Teague spun and collected Don Banker. Teague, apparently unhappy with Currey, drilled him under caution sending Currey towards an infield official, who ran for his life. Needless to say Teague was black-flagged.

In the last 10 laps Basey tried Tschoerner every chance he got close enough, but was never able to complete the pass as Tschoerner held on to take his first ever Thunder Hill Raceway feature win. In the combined points for the night, which were obtained by adding the finishing position for each driver for the night, Marc Currey was the winner over Marvin Buck, Cary Stapp, Bruce Hinson and Buck Basey (top five).
