ASCS Canyon Region Ready for USA Race Park on Saturday

by Lonnie Wheatley

TULSA, OK (June 4, 2007) - Jeremy Sherman will try to maintain his stranglehold on the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region's wingless troops when the series takes to United Sports Arizona Race Park in Tucson this Saturday night.

Through the series opening six events of the 2007 season, the Surprise, AZ, hotshoe has charged to victory lane five times and finished second in the other event. One of those wins came in the series first stop to USA Race Park, when "The Shermanator" rallied from five rows deep to snare the victory.

So far this season, only 15-year-old Chad Boat has been able to deny Sherman victory, doing so with a May 12 score at Casa Grande.

While Sherman has compiled a 56-point edge in the championship points race, he'll face plenty of worthy competitors at USA Race Park on Saturday night, each with designs on their first series win of the year.

Josh Pelkey of Peoria, AZ, is currently Sherman's closest challenger in the points race, with Bernie Smith of Glendale, AZ, currently third in points. Just four points behind Smith is Glendale's Bob Ream, Jr., with Mike Martin of Yuma, AZ, just another five points back in a tightly-bunched points race.

Mike Leslie of Litchfield Park, AZ, is currently sixth, with the balance of the top ten including Seainn Hendricsen (Mesa, AZ), Andrew Reinbold (Chandler, AZ), rookie sensation Jeremy Reagles (Mesa, AZ) and Shon Deskins (Waddell, AZ).

Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.

Saturday's action at USA Race Park goes green at 6:45 p.m.

United Sports Arizona Race Park is located east of Tucson off I-10 Exit 268, then 1.6 mile south on Craycroft Road, which turns into Los Reales. For more information, contact the track at 520-574-8515.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
