Sherman Scores in ASCS Canyon Region's Weiler Salute to Indy

Phoenix, Ariz. (May 26, 2007) - Jeremy Sherman resumed his winning ways by racing to victory lane in Saturday night's 50-lap Arizona Racemart Wayne Weiler Salute to Indy atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval for the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region.

 

The triumph for Sherman aboard Fred Bryan's F&E Development/Impact Racing No. 77 Maxim marked his fifth victory in six events was worth $1,700 and extended his series championship points lead to 56 markers over Josh Pelkey, who finished fifth on Saturday night.

 

While 18-year-old rookie shoe Jeremy Reagles and past Arizona state champion Bob Ream, Jr., led the feature field to the green flag, Sherman wasted little time charging to the front from his second row outside starting position.

 

Sherman raced into the lead within the opening three rounds and led all the way to secure the win. Ream stayed within striking distance throughout but was unable to mount a serious challenge and settled for the runner-up slot.

 

Shon Deskins snared the show position, with Reagles and Pelkey rounding out the top five.

 

Andrew Reinbold charged from the 18th position to finish sixth in front of Bernie Smith and Mike Martin. After a spin while battling for a podium position earlier in the race, Charles Davis, Jr., rebounded to finish ninth, with Jeff Henry completing the top ten.

 

Henry, Sherman, Deskins and Chris Edwards each claimed heat race victories, with R.J. Johnson victorious in the "B" Main. Reagles earned the pole position for the main event by virtue of his victory in the Pole Dash.
