(May 21, 2007) – The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region fires back to action with a pair of Memorial Day weekend events in the Sooner State. The series takes to Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, OK, on Saturday night, then moves on to Creek County Speedway near Tulsa on Sunday night. With the opening three events of a scheduled 18 cars in the books, 21-year-old Cody Branchcomb of Sapulpa, OK, leads the way into the weekend that culminates at the ¼-mile Creek County Speedway clay oval located just several miles from the team's shop. With finishes of fifth, second and sixth thus far, Branchcomb enters this weekend's action with a 26-point lead over Danbury, TX, racer Ray Allen Kulhanek, a past ASCS Gulf South Region champion. Another dozen points back in Sand Springs, OK, shoe Sherman Davis, with Tulsa's Brian McClelland and two-time Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth rounding out the current top five. Ramey won the series season opener at Cowtown Speedway on April 14 to run his series' best career win total to 15, while Kansan Garry Lee Maier swept the two-night double at Mid-America Speedway on April 20-21. Others among the top ten entering this weekend include the Collinsville, OK, duo of Gavin Punch and 2005 ASCS Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland, Broken Arrow's Nick Smith (who won a pair of events at Mid-America last year), Tulsa's Brad Best and 2001 ASCS Sooner Region king J.P. Bailey of Fort Worth. Both nights of racing action are set to fire off at 7:00 p.m. The semi-banked, 3/10-mile Mid-America Speedway clay oval is located one mile south of the Oklahoma-Kansas state line on US 169, then 0.7 miles west. The semi-banked, ¼-mile Creek County Speedway clay oval is located southwest of Tulsa off I-44 Exit 211, then 0.3 mile south on SR 33, then one mile west on SR 66. The 2007 schedule for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region consists of 18 events at eight different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
