Sabine Motor Speedway sanctioning

Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMods

MANY, La. (May 19) – Track owner Robert Benecke knew area drivers would appreciate the new opportunity to race for IMCA points when he added the Jeff’s Performance Southern SportMod division at his Friday night Sabine Motor Speedway.

What he didn’t expect was correspondence regarding the new sanction from three states away.

“I got an email from a driver in Arizona who wanted to know if he could bring his race car along and keep up with his national points while he was visiting his daughter in Louisiana,” Benecke said. “I said sure, we’ll be glad to have you join us.”

New fencing, along with a 30x40 maintenance building that can be used for heavy tech, have been added in the four years since Benecke purchased the 1/3 mile oval at Many, promoted by Teresa Parker and managed by John Higginbothan.

More clay will be added to the racing surface this season and Benecke looks for car count numbers to grow as drivers vie for national and Smiley’s Racing Products state honors.

“Drivers like to run for points and compete for championships,” he said. “They like this track because its smooth and the racing is good.”

Points races at Sabine Motor Speedway are scheduled through Sept. 21.
