O'Reilly ASCoT – "The Texan" Streaks into New York

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 16, 2007) – As the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series invades the State of New York for the first time with this weekend's Bully Hill Vineyards New York Sprint Nationals at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, Gary Wright literally streaks into the Empire State with perhaps the hottest hand in the country.

True, any driver that has enjoyed 13 series titles and well over 250 feature wins over the past 15 years alone, including three ASCS National championships and 112 career ASCS National Tour feature wins, has enjoyed his share of hot streaks along the way.

But as "The Texan" guns for a fourth consecutive ASCS crown, he's come out of the gates in nearly flawless form by picking up six wins and finishing among the top five in 12 consecutive feature events.

A dozen consecutive top-five runs ranks as the third-longest such streak in the 16-year history of the ASCS National Tour. And Wright established both streaks that were longer, including a stretch of 13 straight top-fives spanning 1994 and 1995 and then the series record of 16 consecutive top-fives in 2005.

The streak that is in progress right now may rank as the most impressive though, as it has come against perhaps the strongest nightly lineup of O'Reilly ASCoT competitors.

Wright will be tested this weekend in his first visit to Black Rock Speedway, but if he can keep the streak alive over the two-night set and then next Thursday's event at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, PA, he could potentially establish yet another ASCS record during next weekend's East Coast Nationals at Saluda's Virginia Motor Speedway.

Currently, the second-longest active streak of consecutive top-five finishes belongs to Jason Johnson with five straight runs in the top five.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series.
