Rilat Romps to ASCS Coastal Win at Pike County

 

Lonnie Wheatley, MAGNOLIA, Miss. (May 5, 2007) – Travis Rilat picked off his first feature win of the season by wiring the field in Saturday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region feature at Pike County Speedway.

 

 

 

Starting from the front row outside, Rilat outgunned current series point leader Michael Dupuy for the lead at the drop of the green flag and led throughout aboard the Motor Mike-powered F&J Construction No. 29 Triple-X machine.

 

 

 

Surviving several caution periods over the first half of the race, Rilat took the checkered flag in front of Michael Herrington, who slipped past Terry Gray in the final corner to snare runner-up honors.

 

 

 

Gray, who had taken second from Herrington on the 20th lap, settled for third, with Jimmy Brooks and Lane Whittington rounding out the top five.

 

 

 

Brian Dyar crossed the stripe sixth, with Brandon Berryman charging from 15th to seventh. Chris Sweeney, Robert Casada and Terry Vidrine completed the top ten.

 

 

 

After being collected by a lapped car just six laps into the feature event, Dupuy rebounded to finish eleventh and maintained his series point lead in a substitute machine with his regular ride sidelined with engine problems.

 

 

 

Dupuy, Herrington and Whittington topped heat race action.
