Sergio Hexsel wins 2nd TPS season race at THR

Thunder Hill Raceway, Kyle, Texas (April 28, 2007)

By: Neil Upchurch, Texas Pro Sedans – Race Director

The Texas Pro Sedans touring series returned to Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday night, April 28th. It was their first appearance of seven scheduled races during the 2007 season at the 3/8 mile, D shaped asphalt track in Kyle, Texas. TPS presented 18 four cylinder stock cars at the THR pit gate for the second TPS event of their rearranged 2007 race schedule due to the unexpected closure and loss of seven TPS races at San Antonio Speedway.

Sergio Hexsel and Lalo Leal won their TPS Qualifying Heat Races. Hexsel earned the feature race pole position in his #20 VW Rabbit. Leal won the second Qualifying Heat Race and won the front row outside starting position in his #26 Ford Mustang-arca.

Three TPS drivers completed the race on the lead lap. The Texas Pro Sedans Feature Race winner was Sergio Hexsel of Live Oak in his VW Rabbit, Texas. It was his first TPS Feature race victory of the young 2007 TPS season. Lalo Leal of Corpus Christi, Texas placed 2nd. Mike Merrell drove the #70 George Merrell VW Scirocco to 3rd place.

Hexsel’s win moves him into 1st place in the TPS point standings. Previous point Leader Bill LaBarge notified TPS he would not be present for the race due to “another commitment”. He drops from 1st to 6th in points.

The San Antonio based Texas Pro Sedans touring series is conducting it’s 32nd consecutive year of four cylinder stock car racing in Texas and the southwest. Six more 2007 season races remain to be run at Thunder Hill Raceway.

The next TPS race will be held on the Memorial Day holiday weekend at Thunder Hill Raceway on Saturday night, May 26. The event will also feature another variety and large fields of Thunder Hill Raceway stock car racing classes. The event will also feature the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) and Texas Dwarf Car Association Cars (TDCA).

While the Allison cars were racing, we were lined up to race and a crew member from another car saw a large puddle of oil under #20. He had a bad oil line. His crew was able to fix it in time for our race (less than 5 min.) That race was definitly won in the pits!

Congrads to all.

Great racing and sportsmanship.

I want to thank the #28 team member that saw my oil leak! Yes, Mike K. I was fortunate to have Don and Lloyd Hart run to my pit and fix the problem before the feature race began.

It was a great race and good sportmanship especially when I was going through traffic!

Hopefully by then I can get out of turn 4 without spinning. Was it just me or was that track slick last night? At least I'm consistant, 13th place in both races this year.

Yes, but 13th with only 12 cars racing isnt good. :P J/K

But, hopefully you can get that little bug running well and tuned in so you and everyone else can put on great races for the rest of the season.

The TPS race was good from what I got on tape. That was plenty of action going on back in the field and I shot wide and followed the battles best i could.

I have the DVD's ready. Just send me an email. Thad.
