rebelracewriter Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 ASCS Canyon Region Salute to Windy McDonald on Saturday Night by Lonnie Wheatley Tulsa, OK (April 23, 2007) - After a pair of events on Manzanita Speedway's ½-mile oval, the American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region shifts back to Manzanita's 1/3-mile clay oval this Saturday night in Phoenix, AZ. And while Surprise, AZ, ace Jeremy Sherman shoots for a fourth consecutive ASCS Canyon Region triumph, the track will celebrate 50 years with the voice of Manzanita Speedway, Windy McDonald. Undefeated through the series opening three events of the 2007 season, including one win on the 1/3-mile and two on the bigger track, Sherman has opened up a 32-point lead in the championship points chase. A number of stout runners will try to knock Sherman off the top step of the podium this Saturday night though, with past state champion Josh Pelkey among those leading the charge. Pelkey enters Saturday's card ranked second. Mike Leslie enters the event third in points, with Rookie sensation Jeremy Reagles a strong fourth. Sixteen-year-old Michael Colegrove and Yuma's Mike Martin enter Saturday's event tied for fifth, with the balance of the top ten including Bernie Smith, Seainn Hendricsen, Andrew Reinbold and Bob Ream, Jr. Several other drivers are within striking distance of the top ten, including J.T. Imperial (just six points out), Thomas Ogle, Shon Deskins, Chad Boat and Nick Aiuto. Once again, $50 certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year. Saturday's racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m. Manzanita Speedway is located in Phoenix, AZ, off I-10 Exit 141, then four miles south on 35th Avenue to West Broadway.
