Mitchell Machine is new sponsor for IMCA Stock Cars

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (March 10) – Contingency awards from Mitchell Machine are new this season for drivers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division.

Champions of both the Jet Racing Northern Region and the Destroyer Chassis Southern Region receive manual stick transmissions from the Webster City manufacturer.

Runners-up and third place finishers in the two regions all get $100 product certificates.

Drivers must compete with a Mitchell made transmission and return a sign-up form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1 to be eligible.

“I want to give a good, reliable product to the people who bought my transmissions,” said owner Ted Mitchell, touting the advantages of aluminum over cast iron. “I want to be known as a manufacturer who is there for the racer and a guy who stands behind his product.”

A tool and die maker for more than 20 years, Mitchell opened the machine shop in 1990 and built his first transmission, for his brother, in 1996. Other drivers who saw that transmission wanted one of their own, prompting Mitchell to add yet another line of service to his business.

In addition to tool and die work, CNC machining and aluminum and magnesium welding, Mitchell does custom rebuilding work, assembles rear end gears and is also an ACE Manufacturing distributor.

“I hope to make a product that can evolve as a driver moves from Hobby Stocks to Stock Cars and then to the Modified division,” Mitchell said.

“IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers will have another option on the contingency sign-up form this season, which enables us to award more drivers in both regions at season’s end,” said Kevin Yoder, director of marketing for IMCA. “We are glad to partner with Mitchell Machine in making these prizes available and look forward to a great season.”
