Houston Motor Speedway Local class results

In the Houston Late Model's 75 lap feature, James Southerland got the early lead while Shawn Hunt in first ever late model start moved into second. The top four began to break away with Thad Felton, in a brand new car, challenging Sh. Hunt for second. Lap 16 saw caution fly when Mike Williams, (HMS Owner)Graham Baker and Bod Garwood all spun between one and two.

On the restart Southerland got a slight advatage as Sh. Hunt and Felton slugged it out for second. Just before halfway, the late model rookie, Sh. Hunt slipped allowing Felton to get by. At the mid point the top five were Southerland, Felton, Sh. Hunt, Sonny Hunt and Baker with the top three having a full straightaway advantage.

Lap 42 saw a hard crash after Baker got spun by Garwood, Ken Lilley never slowed and hit Baker head-on. Both car were heavily damaged, and fortunately both drivers were alright. Under red, Southerland's car shut off but never restarted, giving the lead to Felton as the race went back to green. Felton was able to hold off both Hunt's in the final laps, driving the Cletex Trucking/Quality Care/The Biscayne/Pennco/Dodge Intrepid into victory lane.

In the limited modifieds, it was past track champion when the track was still dirt(Big H Speedway), Brad Dixon leading flag to flag to take the 25 lap main. The races only caution came out when JR Hand spun. The top three finishers were all long time dirt aces and have probably logged more dirt laps than pavement laps on that track. Dixon is sponsored by Johnson Automotive Machine and Max Standard Transmissions, with help from his crew Kelly(wife), Brian, Kristen and Todd W.
