Fryar Question

The first one is Freddy's. This car was run at Daytona in the Permatex 300 races run in conjunction with the 500. Another pic of one of Freddy's Permatex cars is on the Bobby Allison site under historical photos.

Harold was Freddy's older brother. Killed during a race when a driveshaft came off a car and entered the car and struck him. It started the use of drive shaft loops also called Fryar loops.

Oh, and their father's name was Elmo, they lived in Chattanooga.

Fryarfan is right on his post.

Might add that Harold Fryar was killed at a dirt track in Gadsden, Alabama.

Freddy has another brother, Bobby, that raced for some years. Bobby has a son, Tim, who raced some in the Southern All Stars series, and some of the Southeast independent shows. Good looking, well prepared cars, The last race I remember him in was the 2003 Snowball, where he crashed early.

I saw Freddy at the first SLM race at SAS this year; he is living near Branson Missouri, was helping a kid named Hal Martin, a raw rookie who purchased all of Jason Smith's SLM equipment.

In talking to Freddy Fryar this weekend at TMS he hinted that he is willing to get back in a car sometime since he has a new helmet and firesuit... It was interesting how he would explain his trek across the country. If you ever get the time and the Hal Martin car is there go down and talk to him its almost as good as talking to Txtom...hehe :)

If you think Fryar is interesting to listen to about how he raced, ask him about how he "chased".

Racing, or chasing, he was legendary.
