Get Ready for the Thunder at Abilene Star Dodge Dragstrip

NAPA Auto Parts “Thunder Jam” set to rock West Texas April 8

NORWALK, Ohio (April 5, 2006) – The name may have been changed, but the fire-filled program is bigger and better than ever. Fans who come to Abilene Star Dodge Dragstrip April 8 will find that out for themselves. The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder Jam, previously named the IHRA Night of Fire, will invade Abilene with all the flame-throwing, ear-splitting action that has made this exhibition series the most talked about program in motor sports.

Headlining the evening will be the “King of Quake,” Bob Motz (photo attached), in his 20,000 horsepower Jet Kenworth. Motz, in his 25th year behind the wheel of his fire-spitting monster, will be making the trip back to Abilene.

“The fans in Western Texas are going to see something they will never forget,” IHRA President Aaron Polburn said. “Just watching Motz stage the truck is a spectacle, but when he takes off you can feel it in your bones. I can still remember the first time I saw him, it was unbelievable.”

Motz’s Jet Kenworth will be joined on a power-packed ticket by the “Cannonball Express” and the “Super Chief,” two 300-plus mph jet trains that will lock horns to determine which is the fastest train on Earth. The Red Wagon Wheelstander, a wheel-standing vehicle that will attempt to pop a wheelie and sustain it the length of the track, will also be on hand to thrill the crowd.

Plus, fans can see one of the world’s legendary, most dangerous stunts. Come to Abilene to watch “Benny the Bomb” blow himself up!

Parking for the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder Jam is free and each paid admission comes with a complimentary pit pass so you will be able to get up close and personal with the drivers and their machines.

Discount tickets are available at all area NAPA Auto Parts stores. For ticket information, contact Abilene Star Dodge Dragstrip at 325-673-7223 or abilenedragstrip.com.
