WHAT: 5th Annual Amalie Oil Texas Nationals presented by Ancira Cars, Trucks and RVs and the San Antonio Express-News, race one of the 11-event IHRA Drag Racing Series

 

WHERE: San Antonio Raceway, 3641 South Santa Clara Road, Marion, TX 78124.

Track is located east of San Antonio off I-10, Exit 597, west of Seguin, TX

 

WHEN: Friday, March 24 – Sunday, March 26, 2006

 

WHO: The stars of the IHRA Drag Racing Series, including five-time (2001 - 2005) world champion Clay Millican, Doug Foley, Bruce Litton, Bobby Lagana Jr, Rick Cooper, and from Galveston, Texas, Mitch King, in 320 mph Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Top Fuel dragsters.

 

For the first time in over 20 years, San Antonio race fans will experience the power of 320 mph Torco Racing Fuels Pro Nitro Funny Car, featuring drivers Mike Ashley and Bob Gilbertson.

 

World champion Mike Castellana, former world champions Shannon Jenkins and Mike Janis, and Canadian Carl Spiering in nitrous vs. supercharged Torco Race Fuels Pro Modified

 

Defending 3-time world champion Rob Atchison, former 5-time world champion Mark Thomas, Jim Sickles, and from Cuero, Texas, Thomas Carter in Alcohol Funny Car

 

“The World’s Fastest and Quickest Torco Race Fuels Pro Stock Cars”, featuring IHRA’s version of NASCAR, the 220 mph factory hot rods of world champion Steve Spiess (Chevrolet Cobalt), Frank Gugliotta (Ford Escort), Robert Patrick (Ford Mustang), and former world champion Brian Gahm (Ford Mustang)

 

Champions will also be crowned in eight Mr. Gasket Pro-Am sportsman classes: Erson Cams Top Sportsman, Mallory Top Dragster, ACCEL DFI Super Stock, Hays Stock, ACCEL Quick Rod, Lakewood Super Rod, Hurst Hot Rod and Top Stock

 

TWO NIGHT SHOWS: The KFC/Taco Bell “Friday Nite-wesuck” and Saturday’s “Night of Fire” feature a round of professional qualifying under the lights – including two flame-burning Nitro-fueled classes – and the legendary 200 mph Jet Kenworth of Bob Motz.

Saturday, March 25: Gates open 8 a.m., Sportsman qualifying 9 a.m. Pro qualifying at 3 p.m. (Q3) and 7 p.m. (Q4) (“Night of Fire”)

Sunday, March 26: Gates open 8 a.m. Championship eliminations: round 1 - 11 a.m., round 2 - 12:30 p.m., round 3 - 2:30 p.m. Finals: 4:30 p.m.

During the Clash of the Titans show I hung out with him on the starting line. Pretty cool! And I wasn't one of those pretty boys afraid to get his hands dirty either. I helped with clean ups on the line a couple times.

 

At the last two IHRA Media Days they gave us rides in the two-seater dragster. Now that was badass!!! Pure adrenlin rush!!
