  1. Davis Sneaks Past Elliott at H.O.T. to Grab Checkers

    By Jackson Braun

ELM MOTT, Texas (May 26, 2019) – A late race pass by Cory Davis on teammate Chris Elliott extended the streak of new winners in the IMCA Modifieds on the Lone Star Super Gas IMCA Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

Elliott, from Abilene, and Cody Tidwell of Round Rock brought the Modified field to the green. Elliott hopped out to the lead, while Tidwell hung on to second with ‘Fast’ Freddy Wojtek and Chris Morris chomping at the bit behind him.

After a few restarts, the field settled in as Elliott, Tidwell, Morris, Cory Davis, and Wojtek the top five. Morris got a run on Tidwell by catfishing on the low side of the racing groove around the bottom and got it to stick after a full lap of having that momentum underneath Tidwell.

Tidwell got stuck up in a higher groove after Morris got around him, allowing Davis, Wojtek, Tyler Stevens and more to pass on by. A few laps later, Morris had begun to reel in Elliott and was looking to make a move into the top spot. Behind them, Wojtek and Stevens were completing passes on each other and swapping positions back and forth.

With five laps remaining in the 25-lap contest, Morris took his shot in turn 4. It ended up adversely affecting him, as he made contact with the inside of Elliott’s machine and spun himself out, ending a strong run for ‘The Handyman.’

After a few restarts, Elliott shot back out to the lead, with Davis in pursuit. Wojtek got back around Stevens and Tidwell made his way back into the top 5. However, Tidwell spun to cause a yellow, giving the spot to Drew Armstrong.

The final restart occurred with 3 laps to go. Davis found a lane underneath Elliott and was able to pass him coming to the white flag. Davis motored away to grab the victory with Elliott, Wojtek, Stevens, and Armstrong completing the top 5.

Sherman’s Trevor Raney led the IMCA Southern SportMod field to the start and made his way out to the lead. A couple laps into the main event, Raney looped it in corner 4, collecting Cole Dennis and DL Wilson. This gave the lead to outside polesitter Bo Day from Greenville, who was running Jimmy Day’s 23M machine. Salado’s Trevor Egbert managed to get underneath Day coming to the checkers, but could not complete the pass, giving Day the win.

Balch Springs’s Jason Riddle and Harker Heights’s Jason Batt started point on the IMCA Stock Car field. Batt jumped out to an early lead. The H.O.T. bullring action was a struggle for some racers, as the yellow flag was on prominent display. Batt had his hands full with the Abbey brothers, as Dean, Westin, and Jeffrey all were on the prowl.

After an incident took Jeffrey out of the race, Batt still had to deal with Dean and Westin. Once a green flag run got going in the latter half of the race, Dean made his way around the outside of Batt’s number 9 machine, taking the lead. Westin followed suit, going underneath Batt to move up into the second spot. Dean ended up holding off Westin to grab the IMCA Stock Car checkers.

  2. Bragg Snags 2019 Red River Modified Tour Opener at Kennedale

    By Jackson Braun

    IMCATV_680X100_AD_1.png

KENNEDALE, Texas (May 25, 2019) – The IMCA Modified drivers continue to have different faces show up in victory lane on the Lone Star Super Gas Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. To open up the 2019 tour, Chris Bragg became the 7th driver to put his name in the record books as a Red River Modified Tour feature winner.

62 IMCA Modifieds were in the pits at the Kennedale Speedway Park. Mansfield’s Marvin Skinner and Bragg, out of Springtown, started the feature on the front row. Going through the first set of corners, Skinner made slight contact with a tractor tire on the infield and swerved to avoid another, handing the lead off to Bragg. Taylor’s Chris Morris and Jacksonville, Arkansas racer Tyler Stevens settled into 2nd and 3rd place behind Bragg.

Morris was able to stick his nose underneath Bragg’s car on the bottom-dominant speedway, but could not get enough momentum to get around him. Soon enough, lap traffic was encountered, and Bragg, Morris, and Stevens all stuck together in a clump. Morris slipped up the track enough for Stevens to get on by as Stevens set his sights on Bragg. However, Stevens did not have enough time to give Bragg a legitimate challenge for the top spot as Bragg was able to hold him off in the caution-free feature. The victory ended up being Bragg’s 100th IMCA win.

    BRAGG_HOT.jpg

In the IMCA Southern SportMods, 44 machines were ready to do battle. Damon Hammond and Michael Dabney led the field to green. Hammond and Dabney raced side by side down the backstretch with Hammond getting the advantage going into the corner. Hammond, fresh out of racing in the IMCA Stock Car feature, was soon bombarded by Bonham Motorsports teammates Nick Clinkenbeard and Greg Frazer.

Frazer found something on the outside line of the speedway and catapulted into the lead by lap 3. Clinkenbeard followed suit and was able to clear Hammond by lap 6. Right after halfway through the 20-lap contest, something went awry on Frazer’s machine, passing the lead off to Clinkenbeard. From that point on, Clinkenbeard continued to walk away from the rest of the field, claiming the Southern SportMod victory at Kennedale Speedway Park in back-to-back years.

    CLINKER_HOT.jpg

The IMCA Stock Cars boasted a strong car count of 43 to kick off the tour in Kennedale. Gary Williams, from Bonham, and Ryan Powers of Kennedale claimed front row starting positions. Williams was able to get out to the lead and hold off Powers for the whole contest. Powers dug in too deep on the final lap, almost spinning out. He recovered to finish third behind Comanche’s Jeffrey Abbey.

Don't Miss A Race! Here Is What's Coming Up Across the ASCS Nation.

Can anyone name a racer in the Hall of Fame that was never DQ'd?

Has anyone ever actually been fully DQ'd? ..... Since I started becoming interested in the 70's I can't recall anyone getting anything but slap on wrist/fined a token amount/lost a few of points/crew chief suspended.....and lately "encumbered".....Yet no total disqualifications, and I'm talking the second place driver awarded the win type disqualification! ....So my answer would be, ALL of them in the HOF.

"Throughout much of its history, NASCAR has been hesitant to take wins away from cars that failed inspection after the race either at the track or, more recently, at NASCAR’s R&D Center. NASCAR officials often said the basis for leaving wins intact was that fans who watched or attended the event should know the winner when they left the track or the race broadcast ended.

O’Donnell said he anticipates the winner being declared official about 90 minutes after the race."

Never understood this reasoning.....How many times have we waited to find out who passed tech at SAR, CTS, etc?.....How many times did people leave a short track only to find out later Joe Dokes didn't pass inspection?.....Even I have had to redo a story after finding out hours later the winner didn't the actual win.

It's a step in the right direction, but ONLY if they stick to their proverbial guns....The first time a big name gets the dreaded DQ, I think we'll see more backstroking than at a swim meet.

  6. NASCAR will disqualify winners for failing postrace inspection at track

by Dustin Long, Feb 4, 2019

CONCORD, N.C. – In a seismic philosophical change, NASCAR will take wins away for violations and alter its inspection process this season.

“We’re changing the culture,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, on Monday. “We’ve tried to do one way, and it hasn’t worked.”

Should the winning car fail inspection (for virtually any infraction other than lug nuts), it will have the win taken away – and no longer be listed in the record book as the winner – and lose all benefits from the victory, including points, stage points and money. If the winning car fails and the runner-up clears, the runner-up will be declared the winner.

NASCAR stated that a violation of one unsecured lug nut would not trigger a disqualification but three would. NASCAR stated that any other violation would lead to a disqualification of a winning car.

Throughout much of its history, NASCAR has been hesitant to take wins away from cars that failed inspection after the race either at the track or, more recently, at NASCAR’s R&D Center. NASCAR officials often said the basis for leaving wins intact was that fans who watched or attended the event should know the winner when they left the track or the race broadcast ended.

O’Donnell said he anticipates the winner being declared official about 90 minutes after the race. He said the winner, runner-up and “random” will typically be inspected after the race. The random car often is expected to be the third-place car in case the top two finishers fail inspection.

NASCAR will consider still taking a car to the R&D Center for teardown, but that will be only to examine any trends in the sport.

Previously, NASCAR did some inspection after the race and often took two or more Cup cars back to the NASCAR R&D Center for further inspection.

It was because of such inspections that penalties were issued to Kevin Harvick‘s team after his wins at Las Vegas and after Texas in the playoffs.

After the Las Vegas win, NASCAR determined a violation with the rear window of Harvick’s car.

After the Texas playoff win, NASCAR stated that Harvick’s team did not use the spoiler exactly as supplied from the manufacturer.

Vice president of competition Scott Miller said Harvick would have been stripped of both wins under this policy.

NASCAR President Steve Phelps had hinted at such a change in his news conference with the media the day of the Cup finale in Miami by saying that series officials planned to “look at the inspection process.”

  7. Ok, after a month of work I think I've finally got it..... Please review the info if you see any corrections needed please add them and/or e-mail me.....Once everything is confirmed I'll send it out to racing sites to update their info..... This will also hopefully help during times of rain outs to know where else might still be running Thanx to all those that help contribute.
