  13. Allen Plays Spoiler at Big O Speedway By Jackson Braun ENNIS, Texas (May 28, 2019) – The first visit to the Big O Speedway for the IMCA Red River Modified Tour did not disappoint. 48 IMCA Modifieds, 30 IMCA Southern SportMods, and 19 IMCA Stock Cars were on hand for the fourth round of the tour. Tensions were high and action was close all night long. Jeff ‘The Animal’ Taylor and Chase Allen led the field to green for the IMCA Modifieds’ first tour feature event at the speedway. Allen was fast from the start, getting the jump on the initial start and never looking back. Every single restart, Allen was smoother than cream cheese on a bagel as the 157 machine ran away from the field. Abilene’s Josh McGaha started inside of row 2 and was able to pass Taylor after a restart, setting his sights on Allen. Chris Elliott, also from Abilene, was charging from the 18th starting spot in his B Main to the top 10. Elliott would gain a little more real estate on every single restart as he worked the top and middle lanes of the track. Elliott settled into the top 3 after a green flag run got going on the racetrack. Every time McGaha closed in on Allen, Allen would pull away. The Midlothian racer found his way to victory lane, playing spoiler to the tour as his only planned stops were Sunday in Elm Mott and Tuesday in Ennis. This is career tour win #2 for Allen, as he took the opener last year in Kennedale. Kaden Honeycutt utilized his pole position starting spot to get a good jump on the field in the IMCA Southern SportMods. A mishap in corners 3 and 4 during the race closed the gap between him and 2nd place racer Bo Day, but Honeycutt still held onto the lead. A caution slowed everything down, and Day was able to get around Honeycutt. Day went on to claim the feature victory, his second of the 2019 tour after winning at Heart O’ Texas. The Stock Cars have seen the Williams clan and the Abbey clan fight tooth and nail for the best of the class each and every night, and tonight was no different. Gary Williams got to the lead once again and looked primed for a 3rd victory on the tour but then came the Abbeys. Jeffrey Abbey has been unbelievably fast in his 2012 Voodoo Chassis, as he propelled his car ahead of Williams and into Victory Lane. Williams followed in 2nd, followed by Dean Abbey, Westin Abbey, and Shelby Williams. Results IMCA Modifieds – 1. Chase Allen, Midlothian; 2. Josh McGaha, Abilene; 3. Chris Elliott, Abilene; 4. 14. Erick Rudolph led flag-to-flag to win again at Weedsport Speedway WEEDSPORT, NY – May 27, 2019 – Despite leading all 100 laps of the Heroes Remembered 100, fans were left amazed at the incredible race they had just witnessed. Rudolph fought back challenges from some of the best Super DIRTcar Series drivers to ever get behind the wheel of a Big Block Modified. Billy Decker, Stewart Friesen, and Max McLaughlin took turns trying to ground the high-flying Ransomville racer, but all efforts fell short. With a final lunge, Decker crossed the finish line under the checkered flag alongside the No. 25r, but was unable to complete the pass before the stripe. Erick Rudolph’s winning ways started early in the day when he cruised to a Heat Race win. Next, he needed a little luck. In the Dig Safely NY 811 Redraw, Rudolph scooped up the outside pole and started next to Mike Mahaney. On the initial start, Rudolph outdueled Mahaney, and jumped into the lead on lap one, but that was no by means the end of the race. NASCAR K&N East hot shoe Max McLaughlin was the next driver to test his mettle against Rudolph. McLaughlin found grip and racing room on the topside and took the fight straight to the No. 25r. Rudolph, sensing the young driver on his right side, began to race right up the track to the No. 6H’s door and then going back to the bottom in the corners. These two drivers put on a show for a big crowd of happy race fans. Eventually, McLaughlin faded and Stewart Friesen took his turn. Rudolph managed to fend off the five-time NAPA Super DIRT Week Champion on multiple restarts. Friesen noted Rudolph’s ability to launch on those restarts was key. Finally, with perhaps the strongest challenge yet, the crimson red of the Gypsum Express No. 91 began to fill Rudolph’s mirrors. Decker seemed to get stronger and stronger as the laps ticked by. Decker passed Friesen for second inside of ten laps to go. With both drivers cutting through lapped traffic, Decker managed to get a run on Rudolph coming to the finish line and barely missed out on the $7,500 paycheck. However, Decker and Rudolph both put up some important Championship points, especially with the points leader Matt Sheppard finishing eleventh. On the finish, Rudolph noted, “I had trouble with a couple of lapped cars. I just couldn’t find a line around them. I definitely had a better car at the beginning and middle of the race than at the end, but nevertheless, we were able to hang on. We’ve got an awesome team here. I don’t know what to say. It’s pretty remarkable. Max and everyone in the pit area are great competitors. I had to change up a few things throughout the race to stay on top.” Despite falling one position short of the win, Decker was pleased with his Gypsum Racing Big Block Modified, “We had a great race car. I would have liked to have raced a little longer, certainly. He’s [Erick Rudolph] been going good here for two years now. He had speed all night. I’m happy with the Gypsum Racing car, with the way it came alive. We had some speed in the Feature and it’s the best I’ve run here in a while.” Friesen felt he was just a tick off of having the winning car. “DKM car was good. We were a half a tenth (of a second) off. It was tough sticking with Erick firing off on the restarts. At the end, we got stuck behind a lapped car there and Decker got us on the outside,” he said. The No. 44 was clearly searching for more on the track. “The top was good early. Max showed me that line up there but then it got dirty and went away,” noted Friesen. Notably, points leader Matt Sheppard started the race in the sixth position and maintained that for the first half of the race. He never let the leaders out of his sight, until on lap 37, Sheppard drove the No. 9s a little too deep into turn one and clipped the inside barrier, which broke a shock and caused him to spin. Few counted the eight-time Champion out, but his charge to the front was capped at eleventh. The KSE Hard-Charger Award winner Jimmy Phelps started twenty-third and diced his way through the field to finish sixth. Phelps needed a strong win over Ryan Godown in his Last Chance Showdown just to make the show. The HBR No. 98H and Godown’s No. 26 raced side-by-side for multiple laps before Phelps could sit comfortably in front. A lot of strong competitors found themselves on the outside looking in when it came to setting the Feature lineup, including Billy Dunn, Anthony Perrego, and another eight-time Series Champion, Brett Hearn. But that is to be expected when 52 of the best Big Block Modified drivers in the country try to fit into a 28-car field. That is also why the Super DIRTcar Series is the premier dirt series in the Northeast. Next up, the Super DIRTcar Series goes big. The Big Show XI at Albany-Saratoga Speedway pays out $11,111 to the winner in addition to a guaranteed start at NAPA Super DIRT Week XLVIII. 15. Davis Doubles Up by Claiming Victory at 281 By Jackson Braun STEPHENVILLE, Texas (May 27, 2019) – Cory Davis has been bad fast so far on the 2019 IMCA Red River Modified Tour, and his margin of victory at the 281 Speedway shows how much of a threat the Eunice, New Mexico racer is. Brent Tidwell from Harleton and Fred Wojtek from Blackwell made up the front row for the IMCA Modifieds. It took quite a few tries for the racers to get a single lap complete in the feature. Wojtek was fast off the front row each time, getting the holeshot on a majority of the restarts. However, the one time that a lap was completed, Wojtek slipped up on the start, making way for the 4th-starting Davis. A caution slowed the field after this lap was completed, which gave the lead to Davis on the restart. The field worked through a few more cautions scattered throughout the event but Davis completely checked out from the field behind him. Wojtek, Chris Morris, and Tyler Stevens were in close quarters for a majority of the race, and finished in that order. With this victory, Davis becomes the first Modified racer to get to 2 total feature wins on the Red River Modified Tour, also becoming the first to win back-to-back feature events. Casey Brunson and Jake Upchurch led the IMCA Southern SportMod field to the green flag. Upchurch was able to get out to the lead while Brunson ran behind him. A handful of laps into the feature, a yellow flag waved, allowing Trevor Egbert to get around Brunson on the restart. Egbert set his sights on Upchurch and used the middle lane to pass Upchurch’s machine. From there, Egbert pulled away and won in convincing fashion. The IMCA Stock Cars provided some great racing action. Gary Williams, winner at Kennedale 2 nights before, jumped out to an early lead. Behind him, the likes of A.J. Dancer, Dennis Bissonnette, Shelby Williams, Jason Batt, Cary White, Jeffrey Abbey, and Brandon Hood all battled two and three wide for position. Gary Williams came out on top with White, Shelby Williams, Bissonnette, and Dancer completing the top 5. Results IMCA Modifieds – 1. Cory Davis, Eunice, N.M.; 2. Fred Wojtek, Blackwell; 3. 16. Davis Sneaks Past Elliott at H.O.T. to Grab Checkers By Jackson Braun ELM MOTT, Texas (May 26, 2019) – A late race pass by Cory Davis on teammate Chris Elliott extended the streak of new winners in the IMCA Modifieds on the Lone Star Super Gas IMCA Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. Elliott, from Abilene, and Cody Tidwell of Round Rock brought the Modified field to the green. Elliott hopped out to the lead, while Tidwell hung on to second with ‘Fast’ Freddy Wojtek and Chris Morris chomping at the bit behind him. After a few restarts, the field settled in as Elliott, Tidwell, Morris, Cory Davis, and Wojtek the top five. Morris got a run on Tidwell by catfishing on the low side of the racing groove around the bottom and got it to stick after a full lap of having that momentum underneath Tidwell. Tidwell got stuck up in a higher groove after Morris got around him, allowing Davis, Wojtek, Tyler Stevens and more to pass on by. A few laps later, Morris had begun to reel in Elliott and was looking to make a move into the top spot. Behind them, Wojtek and Stevens were completing passes on each other and swapping positions back and forth. With five laps remaining in the 25-lap contest, Morris took his shot in turn 4. It ended up adversely affecting him, as he made contact with the inside of Elliott’s machine and spun himself out, ending a strong run for ‘The Handyman.’ After a few restarts, Elliott shot back out to the lead, with Davis in pursuit. Wojtek got back around Stevens and Tidwell made his way back into the top 5. However, Tidwell spun to cause a yellow, giving the spot to Drew Armstrong. The final restart occurred with 3 laps to go. Davis found a lane underneath Elliott and was able to pass him coming to the white flag. Davis motored away to grab the victory with Elliott, Wojtek, Stevens, and Armstrong completing the top 5. Sherman’s Trevor Raney led the IMCA Southern SportMod field to the start and made his way out to the lead. A couple laps into the main event, Raney looped it in corner 4, collecting Cole Dennis and DL Wilson. This gave the lead to outside polesitter Bo Day from Greenville, who was running Jimmy Day’s 23M machine. Salado’s Trevor Egbert managed to get underneath Day coming to the checkers, but could not complete the pass, giving Day the win. Balch Springs’s Jason Riddle and Harker Heights’s Jason Batt started point on the IMCA Stock Car field. Batt jumped out to an early lead. The H.O.T. bullring action was a struggle for some racers, as the yellow flag was on prominent display. Batt had his hands full with the Abbey brothers, as Dean, Westin, and Jeffrey all were on the prowl. After an incident took Jeffrey out of the race, Batt still had to deal with Dean and Westin. Once a green flag run got going in the latter half of the race, Dean made his way around the outside of Batt’s number 9 machine, taking the lead. Westin followed suit, going underneath Batt to move up into the second spot. Dean ended up holding off Westin to grab the IMCA Stock Car checkers. Feature Results Modifieds – 1. 17. Bragg Snags 2019 Red River Modified Tour Opener at Kennedale By Jackson Braun KENNEDALE, Texas (May 25, 2019) – The IMCA Modified drivers continue to have different faces show up in victory lane on the Lone Star Super Gas Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. To open up the 2019 tour, Chris Bragg became the 7th driver to put his name in the record books as a Red River Modified Tour feature winner. 62 IMCA Modifieds were in the pits at the Kennedale Speedway Park. Mansfield’s Marvin Skinner and Bragg, out of Springtown, started the feature on the front row. Going through the first set of corners, Skinner made slight contact with a tractor tire on the infield and swerved to avoid another, handing the lead off to Bragg. Taylor’s Chris Morris and Jacksonville, Arkansas racer Tyler Stevens settled into 2nd and 3rd place behind Bragg. Morris was able to stick his nose underneath Bragg’s car on the bottom-dominant speedway, but could not get enough momentum to get around him. Soon enough, lap traffic was encountered, and Bragg, Morris, and Stevens all stuck together in a clump. Morris slipped up the track enough for Stevens to get on by as Stevens set his sights on Bragg. However, Stevens did not have enough time to give Bragg a legitimate challenge for the top spot as Bragg was able to hold him off in the caution-free feature. The victory ended up being Bragg’s 100th IMCA win. In the IMCA Southern SportMods, 44 machines were ready to do battle. Damon Hammond and Michael Dabney led the field to green. Hammond and Dabney raced side by side down the backstretch with Hammond getting the advantage going into the corner. Hammond, fresh out of racing in the IMCA Stock Car feature, was soon bombarded by Bonham Motorsports teammates Nick Clinkenbeard and Greg Frazer. Frazer found something on the outside line of the speedway and catapulted into the lead by lap 3. Clinkenbeard followed suit and was able to clear Hammond by lap 6. Right after halfway through the 20-lap contest, something went awry on Frazer’s machine, passing the lead off to Clinkenbeard. From that point on, Clinkenbeard continued to walk away from the rest of the field, claiming the Southern SportMod victory at Kennedale Speedway Park in back-to-back years. The IMCA Stock Cars boasted a strong car count of 43 to kick off the tour in Kennedale. Gary Williams, from Bonham, and Ryan Powers of Kennedale claimed front row starting positions. Williams was able to get out to the lead and hold off Powers for the whole contest. Powers dug in too deep on the final lap, almost spinning out. He recovered to finish third behind Comanche’s Jeffrey Abbey. Feature Results Modifieds – 1. Chris Bragg, Springtown; 2. Tyler Stevens, Jacksonville, Ark.; 3. Chris Morris, Taylor; 4.
