  1. Championship Night @ I-37 Speedway by R&M Promotions, 10/5/19 By JM Hallas Pleasanton, TX.,(Oct, 5th, 2019) And so it comes to an end. They say all good things must come to an end, and so it is with the 2019 racing season at I-37 Speedway. It's been a long hot summer and though some class winners have already been established, a couple are still wide open and up for grabs with one final chance to make or break the year. The IMCA Modifieds(off tonight) have already seen their points season come to an end. Jamie Campbell scored his first I-37 Speedway track championship edging out defending champ Rick Green by only six points. Dillon Tindall finished in third with rookie Justin Delgado fourth and Landon Bednarz fifth. The Sport Modifieds show multi-time track champion, Johnny Torres with a fairly comfortable lead over Trent Beaver by 14. Frank Okruhlik and Allen Torres have a good battle for third while defending champion Talon Minten holds down fifth. A former pavement Late Model champion looks to add another title to his collection in the Limited Late Models. Tommy Grimes comes into the night with an insurmountable 27 point margin over Jason Kelly. Howie Marcx, DJ Schroat and Frank Okruhlik round out the top five. Anthony Gordon will take the Street Stock title coming into action leading by a 37 point advantage over past champion, Mike Lyon. Tony Bernal, defending track champ Wade Jones and Darin Blevins hold third through fifth. In Pure Stocks rookie Tryton Temple had a good fight for the points lead all season with Dillon Gaither that came down the one race drop allowed. George Quintanilla has third secured with 14 year old Riley Heil, looking to break through for her first win, fourth and a tight battle for fifth between Jerry Miller and Dustin Hurley. Now things get interesting. It's a tight one in Sport Compacts again this year with defending track champion Jamie Garner only 4 markers ahead of Brandon McCall. Garner had a similar scenario last season leading Kasey Krauss by only 4. George Compton, Krauss and Kirk Ball fill out the top five. Torres Takes Trophy and Title All Johnny Torres(La Vernia) had to do in the 20-lap feature was keep his nose clean and finish while points rival Trent Beaver was forced to start out back after heat race car trouble. At the start Tom Grothues and J. Torres battled for the lead with Marcus Mikulencak, Ryan Doyon and Cody Leonard in tow. After an early debris caution J. Torres got by Grothues for the lead, Mikulencak followed to second and Leonard got third after Grothues looped it on the back stretch. Leonard and Mikulencak then had a side by side scrap for second while Beaver worked his way into the top five and got by R. Doyon for fourth. Leonard finally secured second and at halfway was closing on J. Torres for the lead. Once Leonard caught J. Torres the fight was on. Leonard would dive in low in turns 1-2 and get along side, but J. Torres, with the momentum up top would ease away on the back stretch. That went on for the final laps. What Leonard gained on one end he would give up on the other as two continued. The final two laps Leonard looked to back up his turn 3 entry a bit and get a better run off turn 4. It was all for naught as J. Torres in his Scott Ball Racing, Alamo Hot Rod Parts, Sundowner Diesel Performance, Batek & Robinson Attorneys at Law, All in Designs, Carroll Construction, Mission Auto Parts, 8T1 Construction, Swenson Racing Shocks, Fletchers Race Engines, IRP Chassis held him off for the win and championship. Grimes got a good start trailed by Trey Votion, Jacob Crow, Bob Henderson and Howie Marcx. Henderson quickly got by Crow and Votion for second, with Crow taking third as well. Jason Kelly spun on lap 5 starting a sequence of restarts that narrowed the field and saw officials cut the race to 15-laps on time. Grimes in his Tracy Rail Service, Howell Crane & Rigging, All in Designs, TRC Carburetors, Longs Race Engines, Shaw Chassis was able to pull away from Votion to get the victory. Gordon got around his wingman Bernal for the lead on lap 3 leaving Bernal battling with Torres for second. Sterling Tausch, Boop and Mike Lyon tried three wide with Lyon clipping an infield tire and going around. Aaron Leddy brought out a lap 7 yellow when his driveshaft gave up and laid down on the front straight. On the restart Torres got past Bernal for second and began looking up top on Gordon for the lead. After a late caution for Tausch out looking for the track new track mascot off turn 2(yep the bull showed up again), Grodon in his Alamo Hot Rod Parts, All in Designs, Dewalt Tools, 8T1 Construction, crate powered, Dog House Chassis eased away from Torres for the win. That wasn't a given after several weeks of smack talking that saw Dillon Gaither start directly behind him. As expected that situation didn't end well. It was Dakota Hurley getting out front on green followed by Johnny Westfall, Temple, Gaither and Josh Sewell. It all broke loose on lap 2 when Gaither got inside Temple on the back stretch. After a little rub, Gaither tried to move up and the two made contact that sent Gaither off the track at the pit exit and into a light pole to bring out a red. Gaither bailed out and made a bee-line for Temple stopped in turn 1 but was headed off by track officials as Temple moved to another location. Once calm was restored, Da. Hurley got a good restart leaving Temple and Sewell door to door for third. William Saunders bounced off the wall and pitted with a flat right before Ryan Doyon broke the left rear off and spun with somehow everyone missing him. The wheel ended up on the hood of Michael Keylich. I don't think five tires are allowed on Pure Stocks though. On the restart Caitlin Leonard got by Temple and alongside Sewell for third, while Ben Mikulencak and GW Hessong were moving forward. As Da. Hurley and Westfall crept away, Leonard, Sewell, Temple, Mikulencak and Hessong were swapping spots in a pack. At halfway it was Da. Hurley, Westfall, Sewell, Leonard and Temple in the top five. Da. Hurley's top run ended when he spun for a yellow giving the lead up to Westfall on the restart. Once back to green, Sewell was looking high on Westfall getting by on lap 11 with Westfall now three wide with Leonard and Mikulencak for second. It didn't take Mikulencak long to get the spot with Hessong moving into fourth. Mikulencak and Sewell were side by side for lead on lap 15 with Mikulencak getting the point on lap 16, while Hessong and Leonard ran side by side for third. As Milulencak inched ahead with two to go Hessong, Leonard and Sewell were three wide. Coming to the checkers in was Mikulencak(Corpus Christi) in his Armstrong Lumber Company, Day Motorsports, Darpro Construction, Majek Boatworks, Temco Services, Dubs Garage, Ace Transmission, Flanagans Muffler, C.C. Schoenbaum got a good start and began pulling away from Brandon McCall, Roy Easler jr. and Jamie Garner with Adam Tracy and Kasey Krauss side by side for fifth. The red flew on lap 15 when Adolph Tracy had his car erupt in flames from a fuel fire. Officials and fire crews were quickly on hand to get Tracy out and extinguish the fire. As the race resumed, Schoenbaum cleared the second place fight that went on the final five laps. Easler got alongside McCall running door to door with Garner sitting back watching. 13. Grudge Race Finale/Texas Dirt Truck Series @ I-37 Speedway by R&M Promotions, 9/7/19 By JM Hallas Pleasanton, TX.,(Sept, 7th, 2019) It was a big night of racing on the1/4 mile, semi-banked, dirt track outside of San Antonio. All six regular classes(IMCA Modifieds, Sport Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Sport Compacts) were in action, plus the Texas Dirt Truck Series. If that wasn't enough action, it was time for the Grudge Race Finale to see who was baddest of a quartet of drivers, in four different classes. After the four rounds of warfare it would be sentimental favorite, GW Egbert representing the IMCA Modifieds, Trent Beaver(Sport Modfieds), Tommy Grimes(Limited Late Models) and Mike Trigg(Street Stocks). **Egbert was unable to make the trip down so current points leader, Jamie Campbell filled in for IMCA Modifieds and Tony Bernal stepped in for Street Stocks after Trigg was unavailable. Last year it was track champion, Trey Votion in his Limited Late Model using the horsepower and tire advantage to his benefit getting the victory. Would the crate motors be able to keep up? This would also be the fourth visit to I-37 Speedway for the Texas Dirt Truck Series. Ryan Doyon picked up the win last time they visited. Current TDTS points leader, Larry Baggett picked up victories in two previous runs earlier in the season with Ryan Doyon scoring on the last trip. John Heil and Anthony Gordon have also picked up wins this season at Texana Raceway Park. Grimes Grabs Grudge Win At the start of the 10-lapper it was Trent Beaver first to turn 1, but Jamie Campbell got by low to lead the first lap. Grimes got under Beaver for second on lap 2 and Beaver then spun and collected Bernal, ending the race for both. Once back to green Grimes got along side Campbell for the lead using the top. The duo then put on a show for the fans going door to door for the remaining six laps, each getting the nose out front. On the last lap Grimes finally got a clear advantage to score the victory. Grudge Race Finale 22t Tommy Grimes, 29 Jamie Campbell, 14 Trent Beaver, 81 Tony Bernal Morris in Modified Main again Taylor's Chris Morris added to I-37 Speedway win total making him four for four in visits this year I believe. Morris got a good launch on green then in dominating fashion ran off from the field leaving Cody Tidwell, Jamie Campbell and Dillon Tindall fighting for the runner-up spot. At halfway Morris had built a big lead over Tidwell, Tindall, Campbell and Logan Dinsmore, piloting his dads car. At the white flag Morris had nearly a half track lead easily cruising to the win in his Volvo of Austin, Tina Reagan Realty, ACM Services, Opifex Equipment, Eightfold, Five Star Concrete, Bet All Racing, Austin Cutting & Coring, five1seven designs, crate powered, Lethal Chassis by David Stremme. As green waved on the 20-lap feature it was J. Torres and Rowdy Flanagan staying side by side. Frank Okruhlik would spin in turn 4 collecting Rusty Head and Allen Torres with Doug Ripple and Jeremy Hernandez looping it to avoid contact. Hernandez would back hard into the wall. On the second try J. Torres and Flanagan again stayed wheel to wheel until J. Torres got the lead in turn 3 with Flanagan, Trent Beaver, Ryan Doyon and Heath Stewart in pursuit. By lap 5 J. Torres then began to ease away while Stewart pressured Doyon for fourth. At the crossed flags it was J. Torres, Flanagan, Beaver, Doyon and Stewart. Stewart finally got a run on Doyon with Okruhlik, coming from the back after repairs, joining them. It was three wide for the spot with Stewart low, Okruhlik high and Doyon in the middle. Stewart was able to take spot, with Okruhlik following past Doyon for fifth. In the waning laps J. Torres was stretching out his lead while Stewart caught Beaver for third. At the white flag J. Kelly got by Schroat for third with Jacob Crow getting fifth after a slip by Fox. By halfway Grimes had pulled away to good lead over Votion who had a gap back to Ja. Kelly and Schroat. The second start saw Doyon beat John Heil to turn 1 for the lead leaving Heil side by side with Larry Baggett for second and Tony Bernal and Daniel Gaudette the top five. GW Hessong grabbed the early lead coming off turn 4 chased by William Saunders, Dustin Hurley, Dillon Gaither and George Quintanilla. Tony Blankenship brought out an early yellow slowing in turn 1. On the restart Du. Hurley got by Saunders for second leaving him side by side with Gaither, who got the spot a lap later. Du. Hurley began pressuring Hessong for the lead, but a spin by Daniel Miller would slow the action. Once back to green Hessong, Du. Hurley and Gaither went three wide for the lead with Du. Hurley getting the point on lap 7 while Michael Keylich and Saunders ran door to door for fourth. Du. Hurleys time out front was short lived as he looped it coming off turn 4 giving the lead back to Hessong. Hessong and Gaither got a good jump on green and at halfway it was Hessong, Gaither, Keylich, Riley Heil and Saunders in the top five. Heil then moved in to battle with Keylich with the two getting hooked on the back stretch bringing out another caution. The race was cut to 15-laps on time limit leaving a three lap shootout for the win. Hessong got a good jump, but Gaither quickly reeled him back in and began looking low. On the start McCall got the point with Jamie Garner, Roy Easler jr. and Kasey Krauss with George Compton side by side with Michael Burris jr. for fifth. Contact between Kirk Ball and Devon Surritt brought out an early caution. On the restart Easler took second from Garner and was looking on the high side of McCall for the lead. Behind the lead trio, Compton got fourth from Krauss. As Krauss and Compton battled for the spot, the top were able to pull away until a debris caution just past halfway brought the field back together. On the restart Colton Borlace and Scott Lesher got around Compton for fifth and sixth as the lead triad inched away. Easler again took a peek up top on McCall but fell back in line as Borlace and Lesher swapped fifth. With two to go the top three were nose to tail and still anyone's race. McCall in his Freddy Harris Sand & Clay, Bettis Boat & RV Storage, Wilburn Steel, D&D Hydraulics, Hyundai Tiburon held off Easler for the win.
