Sirizzotti claims third straight Allison Legacys win

Kyle Sirizzotti is as hot as the University of Texas Longhorns baseball club.

But it’s doubtful that any of the Longhorns – who swept three games this week in Omaha to earn a berth in this weekend’s national championship series – can drive like the 14-year-old Sirizzotti (Helotes, TX), who himself has won three consecutive Allison Legacys feature races after taking the checkered flag this past Saturday (June 18) at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway.

The victory gave Sirizzotti his first-ever visit to Victory Lane at the track affectionately called “The Bull Ring.”

“It’s a big relief for me, knowing that I can win down there,” said Sirizzotti, who took the lead from Joe Jones soon after a restart on Lap 15 and never looked back. “It’s also good to keep the momentum from having won the last two races. It’s always good to be feeling good; it gives you a lot of confidence going into the next race.”

After finishing third in his heat race, the youngster – who drives the #9 in honor of his favorite NEXTEL Cup driver, Kasey Kahne – started on the outside of Row 2 in the 30-lap feature. John Riley (inside on the pole) and Joe Jones (outside) started on the Front Row, with Trey Mitchell (a 15-year-old from Wimberley) starting on the inside of Row 2.

The nine-car field didn’t get many laps in after the drop of the green flag, as Riley and Jones spun out after crossing the start/finish line on Lap 3. Riley got the most damage, as he hit the wall on the front straight. On the restart, Sirizzotti started third behind Jones and Mitchell.

Soon after, Mitchell and Sirizzotti were battling for position in Turn 1. Mitchell – who was on the high side – spun after the two touched; series officials determined Mitchell turned down into Sirizzotti.

“That was pretty much just a racing incident, a battle for position,” Sirizzotti noted. “I think everyone understood that.”

“We talked to the Mitchell camp afterwards and there’s no hard feelings,” added Sirizzotti’s crew chief, John Toudouze. “We all agreed it was hard racing between two aggressive young drivers. Trey’s an up-and-coming driver who’s going to be a good challenge in this series.”

Sirizzotti restarted second behind Jones. Sirizzotti continued to run the inside line as he chased down Jones following the restart. Finally, he was able to slip inside of Jones on Lap 15 in Turn 3 and grabbed the lead. Following Sirizzotti on the inside past Jones were James Lee and Mel Krauss, pushing Jones back to fourth place. Lee and Krauss continued their pursuit of the Helotes resident.

Sirizzotti was able to open up a 7-to-8 car-length lead later in the race, as the top three drivers worked their way through lapped traffic. “We appreciate the efforts of the drivers of the lapped cars. They showed great sportsmanship by moving up high on the track so the lead-lap cars could get through without incident and continue racing hard,” Toudouze stated. Lee finished the race in second, followed by Krauss.

Kyle Sirizzotti of Sirizzotti Motorsports is sponsored by G.T. Sirizzotti Excavating, Inc. and Dodson Housemoving. Sirizzotti’s crew includes Toudouze and his wife, Brenda; Kyle’s parents, Tony and Sharon Sirizzotti; Gator and Shannon Dodson; and Stan and Sherry Fuller. The youngster is represented by Dani Promotions of Austin.

Sirizzotti is scheduled to run a “double-double” at Thunder Hill Raceway (Kyle, TX) on July 2nd, as he will look to run with the Thunder Hill Raceway Late Models class as well as the Allison Legacys.

Information about Kyle Sirizzotti can be temporarily found at VRNSports.com. Sirizzotti Motorsports is currently working on a new web site, which is expected to be launched sometime in August.
