OI® provides a means for delivering support in the form of civilian rations® -- goodies and notes from home to deployed forces in a responsible manner that doesn't negatively impact military resources. OI® through its 12 national shipping centerscurrently ships out to over 75,000 soldiers a month. "Operation Interdependence® is very excited about partnering with the Texas Super Racing Series and Thunder Hill Raceway in the upcoming "Crossing the Line Together®" troop support event. Texas Super Racing Series drivers, teams, and fans are asked to bring items to Thunder Hill on June 18, 2005 to include in the c-rats® they will package," said Rebecca Forest of OI®. "Since many soldiers are racing fans, drivers and their teams are encouraged to write their notes on flyers that provide info about their race teams. This "15 Minutes of GivingT" event will give the Texas Super Racing Series/Thunder Hill racing community an opportunity to share their sentiments and support with those who serve our nation." The Austin shipping center opened March 19, 2005 and currently ships to 750 soldiers a month. OI® is a 501© (3) non profit organization that operates through donations that are tax deductible depending on the individual's particular tax situation. OI® has been collecting items for the c-rats® from the racing community at Thunder Hill on 5/28, 6/4, and will again on 6/18. During the evening on 6/18 OI® will put the donations collected out on a table. Then, the drivers, their teams, families, and fans will be encouraged to come by and put together a quart size baggie filled with some goodies and a note they have written. Each box we ship contains 50 civilian rations® serving an entire platoon and the cost for shipping a box is $30.00. One way race teams can show their support is through our Adopt-A-Box program. Teams and fans may donate the shipping cost either individually or by joining together with other teams. OI® will include a special letter in the box telling the soldiers who made this special effort to support them. The names of all those who participated in adopting the box is included in the letter with one or more e-mail addresses. The OI® packages are designed to reach soldiers deployed on the front lines and sometimes they are able to respond to those supporting them. Also, OI® is encouraging the drivers and their teams to include any info they may have on their driver, car, and teams to include in the c-rats®. "The soldiers really enjoy hearing about what their supporters are involved in and racing is a particular favorite for so many of them," added Forest. "Every month the Austin shipping center has a need for 750 notes from home, so any info on the drivers, teams, etc. that they could sign and donate to us for use at the center would be greatly appreciated." OI® would appreciate any and all assistance drivers, teams and fans could lend to getting the word out about this event. In particular the soldiers love to hear from children, so we really encourage their participation by writing notes and/or drawing pictures to include in their c-rats®.
