Reutzel Looking for Lucas Oil Speedway Luck this Weekend

by Lonnie Wheatley

CLUTE, Texas (September 21, 2016) – Aaron Reutzel’s fortune at Lucas Oil Speedway has historically not been the best. “We’ve had horrible luck there,” Reutzel says of the Wheatland, MO, oval. “That place just hasn’t been good to us.”

That’s something that he and the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team hope to change for the better with a $10,000 winner’s share posted for this weekend’s Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial. The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event runs over three nights beginning on Thursday

.

With a half dozen feature wins to his credit thus far in 2016, the reigning ASCS champion took on the World of Outlaws this past Saturday night at Cameron, Missouri’s U.S. 36 Raceway aboard the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions entry. After a midpack qualifying effort, Reutzel was racing forward the rest of the night.

“We didn’t qualify very well,” Reutzel says of a lap that put him 16th in the qualifying rundown. “This motor races good, but doesn’t always qualify very good.”

Gridding his heat race in sixth, Reutzel moved up to fourth to earn the 12th starting position in the Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt entry for the 35-lapper atop the lightning-fast, high-banked clay oval.

And Reutzel was on the move, gaining several positions early.

“We were up to eighth, then a car got sideways on a restart and balled us all up and put us back to tenth,” Reutzel recalls.

Reutzel battled right back in the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance Filtration No. 87, working his way back up to eighth in short order.

“We were passing for seventh and broke the power steering,” Reutzel said after ultimately being forced pitside and credited with a 19th place finish. “We were gonna run at least seventh, if not a position or two better,” Reutzel says. “We had a good run going, it was good to be passing those guys.”

Reutzel is back in Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition this weekend. And with a pair of $10,000 triumphs to his credit already this year, he’ll look for a third five-figure triumph with a Lucas Oil Speedway change of fortune.

2016 Quick Stats: 81 races, 6 wins, 24 top-fives, 38 top-tens.

Up Next: Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Lucas Oil Speedway’s “Hockett/McMillin Memorial” in Wheatland, MO, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
