Hockey and Auto Racing Meet at SBC Center this Saturday

 

Auto racing and hockey certainly have a few things in common. No doubt, the speed of the two sports makes for an exciting Race Night with the Rampage team!

 

This Saturday (March 5), the two sports will be on display at the SBC Center in San Antonio. Prior to the 7 p.m. hockey game between the San Antonio Rampage and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, a car show will be held in the SBC Center parking lot, starting at 5:30 p.m. Team owners, drivers and race teams from San Antonio Speedway and the United States Racing Association (USRA) will be showing their cars and signing autographs near the main entrance to the SBC Center, located at One SBC Center. On display will be the San Antonio Speedway cars from the NASCAR Late Model, Sportsman, Road Runner and Women on Wheels classes. USRA will be showing off its Super Late Models and USRA/AllStar Race Trucks. Tom and Carolyn Johnson will also be showing off their 1967 Plymouth 426-Hemi Richard Petty replica car.

 

In addition, this March 5 hockey event includes a Spurs night. Fans will get a chance to meet Bruce Bowen, George “The Iceman” Gervin, members of Spurs Silver Dancers, the SBC Coyote Crew, and the Coyote himself! Also, there will be a George Gervin Bobblehead Giveaway, and the Rampage players will wear Spurs themed hockey jerseys. The Jerseys will be auctioned off at the end of the game to benefit the Bruce Bowen Foundation.

 

A special $10 Ticket Package is being offered for the SAS/USRA Race Night. The package includes a seat in the lower level (valued at $15.85), a hot dog, soft drink and ice cream, along with a "Buy One, Get One Free Pass" to a regular season race (excluding USRA races) at SAS, valid through June 18, 2005. The ticket package may be ordered by clicking on the Ticket News section at the bottom of the San Antonio Rampage web site (http://www.sarampage.com), Race Night Ticket Pak, and faxing the order form to Chris Sandahl of Spurs Sports and Entertainment at 210-444-5699. Tickets may also be ordered through Chris by calling 210-444-5664. Advance purchase ticket packages may be picked up at the "will call" window at the SBC Center. USRA (formerly ROMCO) will run at SAS on April 2, June 25, August 13 and October 8. USRA was started by Terry Dickerson, who purchased the former ROMCO Super Late Model (SLM) series on November 5, 2004, and then purchased the AllStar Race Truck series on December 19, 2004. San Antonio Speedway is a NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series sanctioned half-mile asphalt oval track located at 14901 State Highway 16 South (3.5 miles outside Loop 410). The first 2005 race at San Antonio Speedway will be held on Saturday, March 12 and will be a charity Enduro Race that will benefit the Baptist Child and Family Services Youth Ranch Camp.
