"Racing for Kids"

San Antonio Speedway Hosts Enduro Race

to benefit BCFS Emergency Childcare Facility

Saturday, March 12, provides a special opportunity for South Texas race car fans to enjoy a evening of family fun and join with Baptist Child & Family Services in providing a safe and healing place of refuge for abused and neglected children and youth at its Luling Youth Ranch.

On that date, San Antonio Speedway will be holding an Enduro Race on its NASCAR-sanctioned half-mile asphalt track. The race will begin at 5:00 p.m, and it will feature 200 laps or two hours of racing action (whichever comes first). Drivers from Corpus Christi, Austin, Houston and San Antonio (and points in between) are expected to compete in the event. The speedway will be donating 100 percent of its front gate proceeds to the shelter. Additionally, all the track officials are donating their time, and the race winners will be given the option of sharing their earnings with BCFS.

The track is located on State Hwy. 16, just 3.5 miles south of Loop 410. Pre-race activities, which include a car show, will begin at 4 p.m. and the race starts at 5 p.m. It will be an alcohol-free event.

San Antonio Speedway shows great pride in maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere, and this race provides wholesome entertainment that is also friendly to the family budget. Admission is “whatever you want to donate to BCFS, “ stated Mike Sepich, General Manager at the speedway. The suggested entry fee is $8 per person, but if that's too much, “come on anyway,” insisted Jim McWhorter, from the Youth Ranch at Luling. “Bring the kids and grandkids, friends and neighbors, and in-laws and outlaws and give what feels right to you. I promise you will have a great time.”

McWhorter pointed out that, “Since 1998, the folks at San Antonio Speedway have been inviting our kids to be their guests whenever we wanted to come. Now they're taking this next step and turning over one of their racing dates to benefit our work with kids who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. I am humbled and amazed at the spirit of generosity of everyone at the Speedway. These folks really believe in helping kids.”

Additional information is available by calling Mike Sepich at (210) 829-0405 or by going to the track’s website at http://www.sanantoniospeedway.com.

The BCFS Youth Ranch provides emergency shelter care for children ages 4-17 who have been removed from their homes because of suspected abuse or neglect.
