Lee Wins Wire to Wire in Texas Pro Sedan Feature at Thunder Hill Raceway

Defending Texas Pro Sedan Champion Randy Lee of Corpus Christi led all 20 laps of the Texas Pro Sedan feature event at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle Saturday to become the first repeat TPS winner of the season. Four-time Texas Pro Sedan Champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan finished second after winning two weeks earlier at the paved, third-mile, d-shaped race track.

LaBarge, driving a BMW, and Lee, riding a Ford Mustang, started on the front row after winning their respective heat races. At the drop of the green flag Lee’s Mustang had the ponies to get to the first turn ahead of LaBarge and proceeded to gallop off into the sunset for an easy, 10 car-length victory in the caution-free event.

1990 TPS champion Donnie Moore of Hutto found some new speed in his VW Scirocco to finish to finish third ahead of Wimberley’s Randy Larsen in an air-cooled VW Karmann Ghia. For most of the race Moore and Larsen engaged in a spirited battle with San Antonio drivers Sergio Hexsel, who finished fifth and Jamie Garner, who wound up sixth. Both Hexsel and Garner drive VW Sciroccos.

VW Scirocco driver Mike Knotts of Universal City finished second in his heat race and looked to be a strong contender in the early going, but lost oil pressure on the sixth lap and retired from the competition.

With the win Lee moves into second place in the TPS points race behind LaBarge while Hexsel drops to third in the standings.
