The Motorsports Zone to take the green flag on Super Bowl Sunday

For the second straight year, The Motorsports Zone radio show (Austin) will “kick off” its broadcast season on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Motorsports Zone will hit the airwaves on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. CT, the morning of Super Bowl XXXIX. The show is broadcast on KVET-AM 1300, The Zone, which is the University of Texas Longhorns flagship station. The show can be heard via audio streaming on KVET-AM’s web site, www.sportsradio1300.com. The show is co-hosted by Chuck Licata of KVET-AM and Ric Clark.

“We re excited about having the show back for a third year,” said KVET-AM Program Director Trey Poston. “NASCAR is a growing sport and that growth is funneling down to the local level. As the leading all-sports station in Austin, we recognize the growth of not only the sport but of the growing number of motor sports enthusiasts. Thus, The Motorsports Zone gives those racing fans an outlet to find out information - and express their opinion – on motor sports.”

“We need to thank the management at Clear Channel in Austin, including Trey Poston, for their support along with the KVET-AM sales staff,” Licata said. “The management at KVET-AM and Clear Channel Austin should be commended for their commitment to the motor sports fans, not only in Texas but across the country. We had calls from listeners in Indiana, Maine, California, New York and Ohio last year, and we saw an increase in the number of calls we received for the entire year. We appreciate all those who have called and sent e-mails to show their support of the show.”

“We’re totally pumped about our third year of broadcast, but folks need to realize all the credit goes to Trey Poston and the KVET-AM management and staff,” added show co-host Rick Clark, who makes the drive from his home in San Antonio every Sunday morning to do the show. “We can’t wait for racing season to start. We want to do more fun stuff and be more interactive with our fans.”

Part of that plan includes a Motorsports Zone web site. “We’re currently in negotiations to get that done,” Licata declared. “We feel an ‘M-Zone’ web site is necessary to give our listeners a chance to win tickets to various races and to give our show’s sponsors another avenue to put their name – and products - in front of our listeners.”

Besides NASCAR, Licata said the show will continue to increase its coverage of Texas racing and racers.

“Ric and I will take the show’s talk about Texas racing to another level this year,” Licata stated. “Anyone who’s listened to the show knows that David Starr (NASCAR CTS driver) and Casey Smith (Austin native) are the show’s ‘Favorite Sons.’ But there’s quite a few Lone Star racers – in both asphalt and dirt track racing – whom we need to talk about and promote. This show is ALL about racing, racers and race fans - period. We want to expand our coverage on open-wheel racing, dirt-track racing and drag racing. We’ll also do a tribute to one of the area’s best and truest racing fans, ‘Mr. Jim,’ who left us on Jan. 3, 2005.”

Licata will also join Craig Way, voice of the Texas Longhorns, for a weekly Friday NASCAR segment during Way’s Afternoon Show on KVET-AM. The segment will air at 3:40 p.m. CT. Way’s show runs from 2-4 p.m. CT every weekday and can be heard via audio stream on sportsradio1300.com.

Potential sponsors for the show can call the KVET-AM sales staff (512.495.1300) for rates and packages.
