Texas Super Racing Series Banquet A Blast

The stars of the Texas Super Racing Series held their annual Awards Banquet

this past weekend at the beautiful Texas Events Center in Kyle, Texas. 2004

Miss TSRS Trophy Queens, Nicole Basey and Tiffany Vogel along with Kim McKim

and Dean Sandefur and several other Officials greeted drivers, teams and

fans as they arrived.

 

The event colors of black, white and champagne were displayed predominately

throughout the ballroom. The dinning area was adorned with black or white

linen tables decorated with beautiful beaded candle center pieces made by

Lisa Painter, Public Relations Director and Official, Wayne Leggott. The

massive black stage was bathed in colored lights up front promising

something special for the night. A continuously running slide show recapped

the some great moments from the season as captured by series photographers

Jeff Garvin and Marc Roy during happy hour, and all with thanks to Jon

Garrett.

 

The evening was officially opened with a greeting and opening prayer from

Series Race Director, Wynn Wilkerson. As the delicious fajita dinner

provided by G & M Catering was about to wrap up, series founder and owner,

Mary Ann Naumann took the stage and you could feel the anticipation and

electricity building in the room as a drawing for a new ARP-ABC Body was

awarded to Chris Schild compliments of ARP & Gural Racing Products. The

first three names drawn were unfortunately not in attendance, the first

being #14 Blake Harris, whom could not attend as he was performing in his

High School concert.

 

Next Naumann recognized the top ten drivers of the 2004 season. They were

2004 Texas Super Racing Series champion Brad Hudak followed by 2nd place

Lloyd Alexander, 3rd place Mike Yale, 4th place Jeff Pollard, 5th place

Bryan Schild, 6th place Beau Bukowski, 7th place Pat Lyon, 8th place Jamie

Fuller, 9th place Henry Guerra, and 10th place Chris Schild.

 

Naumann then introduced her entire official staff, her husband H.E. Naumann,

with whom she said "I could not be here without his love and support" she

spoke of learning the love of racing from her wonderful Father & Mother, the

late Jake Wallace & Frankie Wallace, whom helps her so much with the series,

followed by Wynn Wilkerson, Bob Bolin, Don and Lisa Painter, Bill "Sarge"

Masom, Jack and Dean Sandefur, Stacy Miller, Amanda Neer, Paula Neer, Sonya

and James Prewitt, Mickey and Kim McKim, Wayne Leggott, Ric and Tottle

Carter, Dee Jacoby, Mark Pivarnik, Jeff Garvin, Marc Roy and presented them

with awards of appreciation.

 

Naumann then thanked all the tracks, Thunder Hill Raceway, Houston

Motorsports Park, Corpus Christi Speedway, San Antonio Speedway and Texas

Motor Speedway (Jon Garrett) along with the facility owners in attendance

for such a wonderful year working together.

 

With individual awards still to come, the buzz in the ballroom was growing.

Sportsman of the night recognition was awarded to series sponsors Joe and

Martha Cantrell of MCG Graphic for OctoberFast at San Antonio Speedway and

Mike Yale at Texas Motor Speedway in November. The 2004 Rookie of the Year

went to Pat Lyon. 2004 Best Appearing Car went to Mike Yale with an

honorable mention going to Texas legend and series newcomer Ervin Breiten

Jr. who joined the series for the final three races of the season. 2004

Best Appearing Crew was awarded to the team of David White. 2004 Hard Luck

Awards were presented to Allen Alexander and Henry Guerra. 2004 Crewmember

Sportsman of the Year Award went to Big John of car #5 driven by Lloyd

Alexander. And the night's final award for Driver Sportsman of the Year was

presented to Ian Webster.

 

After completing the presentation of appreciation plaques for all 2004 Texas

Super Racing Series sponsors, Naumann recognized special guests Donald

Teague from TSAR, Neil Upchurch from TPS, Terry Dickerson from USRA and well

known motorsports writers Bruce Mabrito and J. M. Hallas along with several

kuddos to Longhorn Speedway's successful years with Alvin Stewart in

attendance.

 

Naumann then paused to express a sincere thank you to everyone involved with

the 2004 season and for another great year. Naumann followed that with

heartfelt thanks for her son, Heath Stewart, (SLM-USRA driver) and stepson

Bubba Naumann (SLM) and her entire family for all their love and support.

 

Naumann concluded the awards section by introducing the legendary Austin

band, The Waddell Brothers, who for over twenty years have been laying down

some of the hottest licks around for central Texas residents. Texas Super

Racing Series driver, Leland Waddell took his seat behind the drums and the

band ripped into three fantastic sets of music covering everything from

classic country and rock and roll to new favorites as everyone in attendance

danced the night away.
