by Lonnie Wheatley

PEORIA, Ariz. (August 9, 2014) – Another night of racing action at Canyon Speedway Park resulted in yet another win for Ricky Thornton, Jr., as the Chandler, AZ, racer topped Saturday night’s Allscapes Back to School Special feature event atop the 1/3-mile oval.

While Thornton, Jr., snared his seventh consecutive IMCA Modified feature win atop Canyon clay, other Allscapes Back to School Special feature winners included Ty Weidner in Pure Stocks, Joe Peterson in Renegades and Bo Partain in X Mods.

In the IMCA Modified main event, Thornton, Jr., rallied from the 11th starting position to claim his 11th win in 13 CSP starts in 2014, racing to the checkered flag ahead of tenth-starter Brian Schultz with Jason Noll, pole starter Lance Mari and 21st-starter Mark Stewart in the top five.

Ty Weidner put a halt to Matt Martinez’ three-race win streak in the Pure Stock ranks, advancing from seventh for his second win of the year in front of Chris McCurdy, Jr., Steve Bitting, Jason Schwader and Steve Shumaker.

Joe Peterson raced from fourth to capture his first Renegade win of the year ahead of Jason Crowe and David Harrington while Bo Partain scored his second X-Mod win in three tries ahead of Eric Winemiller and Ray Czumaj.

Next up at Canyon Speedway Park is the two-day Stock Car Shootout on Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31, featuring IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Renegades, Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, AMA Mod Lites and X-Mods.
