Aramendia, Teague sizzle at Houston Motorsports Park’s “Fiesta’s Summer Sizzler”

Houston, TX (August 5, 2014) – NASCAR Fiesta Modified driver Joe Aramendia took command of the “Fiesta Mart 75” early and roared off to a convincing win at Houston Motorsports Park Saturday before one of the largest crowds of the season.

The multi-time track champion had been struggling with a recurring handling issue most of the season with his Premier Minerals/RPM Equipment ride, but his low-slung modified was on rails this time out.

“My awesome team found a problem in the front end, and if anyone thinks we’re out of the championship hunt, they had better think again,” Aramendia said after Saturday’s win at the immaculate 3/8-mile paved/concrete oval known as the “Palace of Power.”

“That was as good a ride as I could ever ask for – unless the track gives us stickier tires,” Aramendia said, only half-joking.

NASCAR Fiesta Modified point-leader Michael Kourkoubes’ night ended early.

“I wound up getting involved in an incident involving two other drivers,” Kourkoubes said. “It hurt the Tommy Vaughn Ford modified pretty bad, but we’re taking it to John Heil at BMF Motorsports. He’ll get it straight again and we’ll be ready for the “Double Double” in two weeks.”

With Kourkoubes misfortune, Zach Knowles, who finished second to Aramendia, took over the top spot in the championship standings. Youngster Clayton Green, veteran Jason Morman and Brian Moczygemba, who is Aramendia’s teammate, rounded out the top five.

“I started fourth behind three of the top NASCAR BWFS Coke drivers,” Teague said when asked about his hard-fought run to the front. “And two of them were trucks that seem to have magnets for my truck this season. So there was no telling what was going to happen. But with a little door-rubbing and paint-swapping I managed to get the Kies Solutions Chevy into victory lane for the fifth time this year. “

Teague’s grandfather, former San Antonio Speedway standout Butch Teague who lives out of state, was there to witness the win.

“It felt really good to win since my grandpa got to watch,” the younger Teague said. “I hadn’t seen him in two years, so I let him take the trophy back with him to Indiana.”

David Webster, Charles Evans, Jr, Kyle Books and Mike Coursey rounded out the top five.

NASCAR American Muscle Cars recap

Even though he was driving a brand-new NASCAR American Muscle Cars (AMCAR) ride owned by Dale Sheen, David Webster beat Derek Shumaker (also in a new AMCAR) and Ed Nastasi, driving Webster’s regular ride, to the checkered flag. With the win Webster extended his seemingly-insurmountable championship points lead over Nathan Demski, who finished sixth.

Double features nights nearly always mean double excitement, and this one should be no exception as the season passes the half-way point.
